Watched the Oscars this morning - some excellent winners (Adele - Skyfall for one - her performance was outstanding) one of which was this:

Paperman - which showed in front Wreck It Ralph. If the director is not snapped up by Pixar for a feature length film, there really is no justice.

You can't send wheelbarrows to Nigeria and you can't send pairs of shoes to South Africa. No, I don't know why either!

PSA - for those of you who gave up on Delicious during the great migration of last year... they've started listing the full RL names of users as part of their account. Such as 'Beckymonster'/'Becky REDACTED FAMILY NAME'.

Ahahahah no. So, yes, my account is no more. Separation of 'church' and 'state' just isn't for elections you know!

* * *

Talking of church and state - Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom (and part time Bond Girl) offers her congratulations to Barak Obama on his re-election as President of the USA - good to 2016 or until independence is revoked. ('tis a joke but just in case... it's a joke!)

Just don't make us regret the independence thing kaithanxbai!

[livejournal.com profile] mini_nanowrimo pledge - 100 words. Written 734 words. I think I can see the ending but I'm not too sure as I need a telescope to make it out.

You don't need to be a telepath to realise what I'm about to say next do you? Just insert your favourite Granny Weatherwax quote here.

Fair warning is fair. Skyfall opens in the UK tomorrow and well, I'm currently on one of my biyearly Bond kicks. We shan't speak of the fact that's it's about two years overdue. After seeing all 22 of the films in six weeks in '09, I think I can be forgiven.

So, there will (most likely) squee but I promise no spoilers. Especially as it doesn't open in the States until 11/9 (or 9/11, depending on what way you look at it). Just so y'all know.

* * *

On the subject of fair warnings.... I er... have signed up for both [livejournal.com profile] yuletide and [livejournal.com profile] secret_mutant again this year.

So far, so 'normal'. if not for the fact that I'm 156 words off of 17500 words on my [livejournal.com profile] xmenbigbang story.... I think I'm at the 65/70% range of the tale - which is frightening and exhilarating for a number of reasons. Not least for ah... 'historical' reasons!

All I am saying in my defence is that sanity was never my strongest point.

So, fair warning for all the whining imaginable as to deadlines and muses misbehaving that will be headed in your general direction in the not too distant.

* * *

So that's me (with a snoring cat at my elbow) - how are you guys?

325 words. Let's not speak of the fact that I've trashed most of the scene I was writing and am now re-writing it. Still, it's pushing everything forward in a 'good' way.

I wished to speak of pop culture anniversaries but I'll do that tomorrow, I think.

So, yes, any squeaking heard in the vicinity of South East England at about 8.30am BST? Most likely to be me. I may not have babbled about Bond's return as much as I have 'other' films in recent weeks but as is traditional around here... 'Is It October Yet?!'

* * *

In related news: It's been announced that Duncan Jones' next film will be a biography of Ian Fleming - so yes, Man Made Moon meet Man Made Bond (thank you, thank you, here all week;))

Given that Jones first two efforts were cracking films (Moon and Source Code) it will be interesting to see him take on such subject. Especially when you consider that Fleming led one hell of a life. One that even his most famous creation would raise an eyebrow at.

* * *

One day, I will do a summing up post that does not involve movie trailers. Today, is not that day.

Peter Weyland speaks at the 2023 TED conference - I am assuming that this is before the merger with Yutanti Corp...

* * *

Also - of interest - The Barbican announce their summer exhibition - Designing 007 - 50 Years of Bond Style - curated in part by Lindy Hemming, who is a regular collaborator with Christopher Nolan. If Nolan is not a Bond fanboy, I'm the queen of Sheba!

* * *

This may very well be the fifth time you've seen it on your flist but -

Consider my curiousity about this one *finally* piqued... Despite the quite daft name 'change' for the UK market I'm not quite at 'Is It Month Yet?!' (like I am with Prometheus - like the above is not hint enough!) but April isn't that far away...

Which it is - yes, I came that close to binning over 2,000 words of my [livejournal.com profile] secret_mutant story again. Also? the [livejournal.com profile] yuletide mantra of 'Optional Details Are Optional' should apply to all the damn ficathons!

In happier news - Written? Kitten! is hewn from 100% *awesome*

*

If you have been having issues with LJ - they are aware of it

*

New Promo images from John Carter (of Mars). This is being directed by Andrew Wall.E Stanton. Which, trust me, is more than reason enough to watch this film. Having read the (first) book, I am glad to see this guy made the cut. Zie is awesome.

*

When the 'official' announcements were made regarding Bond 23 aka Skyfall, the characters that some of the actors would be playing were not noted. Even so, it was teased that these would be known to people who had read the books. In that vein, Ben Whishaw will be 'Q'. If he says *that* line, made famous by the late, great Desmond Llewellyn, I will be a very happy monster indeed.

*

20 of the Muppets greatest hits. Let's not discuss how much I envy everyone who has gotten to see this so far. February is too damn far away. < /sulk>

*

I've only seen THREE movies this month. Which by my standards is appalling But I have finally met my nephew - warning: cute baby. So, there is balance (and also Wednesday).

Also, I have written over 100 words every day and blogged every day. The new 'high-speed' (i.e. the damn thing goes and I can watch trailers in almost real-time) t'internet may not approve but hey!;) Need to keep going until, yes, you've guessed it... WEDNESDAY!

In other RL news - I have nearly all my Christmas presents 'sorted' bar one. And by 'sorted', I mean, I either have purchased them/know what to buy them and will purchase as soon as funds/time become available. This is nearly unheard of.

Next thing you know, I will be posting my 'manoeuvres' for December/January and by manoeuvres I mean what I am going to see at the BFI and when. Consider that a warning;)

So, beloved flist - Any good news to share?

- Remember what I said yesterday about meeting the Nephewmonster?
Best laid plans and all that - a combo of the weather, sinusitus (on my behalf - my immune system clearly *hates* me) and whether said Nephew would be awake to receive visitors - put paid to that. Yes, I am annoyed but - schtuff happens.

- Bond 23 now officially a go. Skyfall will be directed by Sam Mendes, star such acting luminaries as Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes and Naiome Harris alongside regulars such as Daniel Craig and Dame Judi Dench.
October 2012 cannot come soon enough.

- Serkit Message for [livejournal.com profile] torn_eledhwen - The good news is... I has Sherlock tickets! The 'errr' news is that the showing is now WEDNESDAY 7TH DECEMBER @ 6.15PM.

Yes, this is the fourth time that the showing has been moved. Yes, the BFI want to hunt down and do very bad things to whomever at the BBC has been yanking their chains over this - but the tickets are OURS!

- Consider this a signal boost: An Incomplete List Of Ineligble Fandoms For Yuletide 2011 has gone up. I do recommend that anyone/everyone who is considering doing this takes a looksee at this. I've lost two fandoms (Nolanverse Batman and Superman Returns, although the latter I have put in a request for a reprieve - I have two hopes... and Bob is, alas, no longer with us) from my lists. So I would recommend that everyone else checks theirs as well. Thankfully, I have other options (just!), I'm going to need to 'broaden' my horizons in future I think!

- [livejournal.com profile] mini_nanowrimo quota - 100 words
Today's total - 151 words - my sinuses have a *lot* to answer for! Not to mention trashing a hell of a lot but in the long term - it's all for the best!

- Now, if you'll excuse me... I need to find the 'good' drugs so I can sleep!

To celebrate have the following...

Pictures from this year's Dieux Du Stade Calendar. If you have seen these already - don't mind me and why didn't you share!?!. Needless to say that if you haven't and you know what I'm talking about... you aren't reading this - because you've already clicked on that link;)

If you don't have a clue - let me say this - gorgeous, naked men leavened with a healthy dollop of (homo)eroticsm. So NSFW but so worth it!

*

If there is anyone *still* reading this post after that... Have pictures of Chris Evans (no, not that one!) as Captain America and Andrew Garfield in the Spiderman costume.

Of the two films, I'm looking forward to the former rather than the latter. Not to mention, Captain America has both Richard Arimitage and Hugo Weaving in it, which is certainly in it's favour.

*

Now, as I haven't seen anyone else really mention this on my flist - I don't know if this is common knowledge or not if it is - y'all are fired! but Being Human returns on Sunday 23rd January for 8 episodes. I've just done some math and the series finale is the day after my birthday. Which if it's anything like the finale for series 2... Ah.

The spoiler-phobic may not want to hit that link - just in case.

N.B.. I am, of course, talking about the UK version. Not the U.S. version. Which is the only time I am mentioning that this year.

*

And now for the memoes part of our broadcast day.
