To honour of one of the hoopiest froods ever - Mr Douglas Adams, who would have been 61 today. Whereever you are, have a Pan Galactic Gargleblaster on all of us.

Seeing as I am not the only Dune geek out there - Available for today only - Dune Tours of Arrakis.

In rebuttal of (frankly anger making) comments made by a British Catholic Bishop regarding gay marriage (guess what he said... no really!) I give you this:

Sir Ian McKellen: Should We Not Aspire To Happiness?

I make no bones about the fact that I consider this man to be a National Living Treasure - not just because he is Gandalf and Magneto (Silver Fox Variant) but for eloquently stating what should be accepted as fact. That no one has the right to say who can or cannot be married.

In other news - saw John Carter (Of Mars/Barsoom) on Thursday - GO AND SEE THIS MOVIE FOR IT IS AWESOME - even in 3D. And yes, I will get on and catch up with my Months of Movies - honest!

I've already seen a professional 'comrade' on my flist post this but it bears repeating: No, we cannot just wave magic wands. Would be fun if we could!

*

This popped up on my twitter feed this morning and I had to share

The artistry of the stop-motion animation is just breathtaking. Not forgetting, all those lovely, lovely books. And even though the 'professional' part of the brain is 'perturbed' by it - I would love to do the colour shelving of books one day;). Wouldn't be able to find a damn thing but it would look so pretty!

*

For those of you who know the TERROR of me in real life, you may know that I have a thing for weird and wonderful jewellery. Nearly 90% of my collection comes from one London based company - Tatty Devine. They currently have a limited collection of items with Selfridges at present - you can see the full collection here but I just want to point out this piece to my fellow information specialists;)

Ever get the impression that the 'verse is trying to tell you something?

Right now, I am reading Dune (alongside Soulless by Gail Carriger which I recommend highly).

I can thank the academy, my director- writing a Children of Dune fic for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide this year for going back on a Dune kick I will post said story in full, here, sometime this week. I promise. Hell, I even have an appropriate icon to use too;). Who knows, I might actually get through God Emperor of Dune this time.

Then there is the fact that those lovely people at the BFI are showing the Lynch version of Dune next month. I may prefer the Smithee version but I still have ridic love for this film, so I am booked in for that. Twice. It's a long story!

And then there is the piece de resistance: CHOAM t-shirt by Last Exit To Nowhere. How to be utterly *nerdy* and comfy (because - Last Exit's t-shirts are loovely!) in one fell swoop. Oh and they're offering 15% off at the moment too.

I would ask for help but I am far too gone for that;)

Item of Note
BBC Press Office - Torchwood: Miracle Day starts on BBC One on Thursday 14th July @ 9pm It airs in the US on 8/7 (or 7/8) Needless to say - spoil and diaf.

Trailers of Interest

Teaser trailer for Pixar's next film, Brave and it looks amazing already. Is it 2012 yet?

Still on the subject of 'Is It 2012 yet?' Aragorn and Magneto in A Dangerous Method - the new film by David Cronenberg (I'd say NSFW as I got caught out by a certain scene at work no less! *facepalm*)

I haven't seen much of his work but I thoroughly enjoyed A History of Violence, so I may have to give this a look see. I *will* try to keep the objectifying of Michael Fassbender to a minimum, even though such a thing has been clinically proven to stop me from'moidering' certain undesirables at the cinema. Long story. Also, Sir Ian McKellen graces the cover of this month's Empire Magazine. Haven't read the full article yet - it's stashed in my handbag for lunchtime perusal but... again, is it 2012 yet?!

I was going to point to a trailer for the new film version of Jane Eyre (as well as the one for the new version of 'Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy but Live Journal is being p*ssy.

Will try again, later! Needless to say, I was sighing like a Regency heroine by the end of the Jane Eyre trailer (a combo of one of my all time favourite books and the Future!Mr Beckymonster playing Rochester...)

ETA - All hail t'internet (and fandom!) for coming through...

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy stars more British Actors than you can shake a stick at and looks rather promising. And this is speaking as someone who has neither read the book or seen the much vaunted BBC serial...

So - in other words - still here, still batsh*t insane. How are you guys?

Which explains why I haven't been posting around these 'ere parts for a while. The most 'interesting' things (that do *not* involve movies) I have been doing recently have been trying out a new contact lens make (verdict - owowowow) and buying books (for myself).

Not that this is incentive for anyone or anything to make my life 'interesting' by any means. I like *boring*. It's just that it doesn't make for good blogging!

***

On the subject of books - whomever has been raving about The Hunger Games... thank you. I read the first book in about four days. Which is damn good going. The other two are now on order from Amazon.

For those of you considering reading these - I'd recommend the first one certainly. And no one spoil me, please.

***

On the subject of books - I'm currently reading Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovich. I'm two chapters in and... I think the best way I can describe it is one part Hot Fuzz (alas minus the homoeroticism) and three parts The Dresden Files.

I fear that I may be reaching for my next book before too long - which is a good thing. Will report back when I finish it.

***

Changing the subject to music for a moment - does anyone have a *legal* copy of The Black Hole soundtrack that can be loaded onto a computer? It's asking for a lot, I know, as the only copy I can find is on US iTunes (which, being from the UK, is as much use as a chocolate fireguard!) but I thought I'd ask.

On a similar note - Pictures of the packaging for the 'Tron: Legacy' Blu-ray/DVD. WANT!

***

Time for a random photo snurched from Twitter (three good guesses *who* one of the subjects is...) The Old and New faces of TV astronomy.

Also - related to the above (especially if you think like *me*) The captions say these are photos from CERN - I'd say the Grid from 'Tron' meself!

***

Related to the above (again!) - Wonders Of The Universe starts on Sunday 6th March at 9pm. Which means that it's on the same time as Being Human for two episodes. Thank the Flying Spagetti Monster for BBC iPlayer and DVRs! Also, if anyone can choose what to watch and what to tape from those two - congratulations! you are a better person than me. Trufax.

***

*Still* on the subject of telly (paging [livejournal.com profile] nialla42!)- Hawaii Five O (2010) - yay or nay?. It, too, is on at 9pm, Sunday on Sky One, so is it one to have a looky-loo (most likely through catch up services - it's the BAFTAS next week. Or rather Inception plays the bridesmaid *again*) or no?

Finished it last night (which will explain the radio silence at my end) and...

I wish to be associated with the remarks made by my esteemed friend [livejournal.com profile] nialla42

This web comic sums it up *beautifully*

Web Chat with Jim Butcher - contains HONKING GREAT SPOILERS! for 'Changes'. Read this AFTER you've finished the book. It makes for a good glass of Perspective and Soda.

Favourite non spoilery quote - “Now you are just torturing us. ”

I’m a professional. It’s what I do.

Oh... Serena, never, ever stop being so utterly awesome! I read a comment on in the Sunday Times a couple of weeks back, which stated that he (Sir Ian McKellen - living national treasure and generally nice man, tm, if it wasn't utterly obvious!) writing his autobiography. No idea when it will be published but one thing is for sure - I can't read it in public as I'll make a scene because I'm laughing too much. just like I did for John Barrowman's books

Also - random factoid of the day - If Sir Patrick Stewart *had* taken Sir Ian's advice - someone else would have been Jean-Luc Picard. Thank the lord for small mercies!;)

***

Neil Gaiman writes about his experience at the Oscars - just when you think he couldn't get anymore awesome... He does this (and will be writing an episode of S6 Who too!)

***

Dear ALA and CILIP - please can you use these NSFW photos for future publicity posters. No?

Humpf! No fun - whatsoever!

Memo to the British Weather - It's Easter at the weekend and the clocks went forward on Sunday - so what's with the bloody SNOW!!11! Sort it out! Although - ease up on the rain - it's scaring the cat.

***

New Radio Times Cover - featuring Eleven and Amy - expect details of episode titles tomorrow then!

And now - to something completely different!
