I had a user from hell today at work.

Don't get me wrong, if they show that they've made an effort to try things for themselves - be happy to cover the same thing again and again until I'm this colour.
Even so, if it's obvious after a 40 minute interview that you're a) not taking it in, b) we're only half way through and (most importantly) c) you haven't even TRIED to do what's required on your own but are getting ME to do the work for you....

You Are On Your Own Sunshine.

Still, my X-Men: First Class DVD was waiting for me when I came home - so my equilibrium has been restored.

Useful Fannish (and other sorts) Links that are Useful

The Guardian Newspaper visits Aardman Studios and peeks behind the scenes at their next (but one) film 'Pirates! An Adventure with Scientists!' Well worth a read if you are fans of Wallace And Gromit etal.

For his 25th year as a Choreographer, Matthew Bourne will be creating a new version of 'Sleeping Beauty' with 'vampiric' overtones. Also, Sadlers Wells will be putting on a retrospective of his work. WANT!!

With [livejournal.com profile] yuletide just about to start up again, a handy dandy guide to taking part (clue - it's easier than you think!).
For the record - I'm going to ask for the following:

Nolanverse Batman (2005-)
Jane Eyre (book) - although I reserve the right to use this casting as reference. 'M just saying!
Sunshine (2007)
And either Warrior (2011) or RocknRolla (2008). See what is nominated and see what I feel like at the time.

Something I thought (and most people reading this, most likely will think the same way) I'd never say Can I be Keria Knightley pls?

This is a couple of days late but I still wanted to comment - More details of Joss Whedon's take on 'Much Ado About Nothing' including that it 'should' appear on the festival circuit Spring next year - which *may* mean that it might make an appearance at the Edinburgh Film Festival (June/July)?

After all, the BDM bowed there in 2005 (I know this, because I was there!)

So, that's me - How are you guys?

I saw this the day that it was announced that Anne Hathaway would be Selina Kyle and Tom Hardy would be Bane in 'The Dark Knight Rises' .

Well, I actually read it on Twitter as I was waiting for the film to start. As you can well imagine, for a good few minutes I was sat there muttering "Bane?!" every so often.

My reason for mentioning this anecdote? One should be open to being thrown off one's beam everso often. In a good way, mind. Also, it's a damn good ice breaker (why, yes, I am using these entries as much as a diary as reviews;)
Does it show?)

Because for me, a really *great* film knocks you off your beam for a while. Sure you get back on, but for a moment, you are in a daze...

'Inception' , '127 Hours' both had this effect. As does 'The Black Swan'.

In short - I loved this movie. So much so that by the time the credits rolled, I was already planning my second viewing. That's always a good sign;).

If anyone decides to make a version of this using the Bourne Version of 'Swan Lake' it would be my favourite film EVAR! )

So in short? Go! See!

Dear Awesome Person

You are AWESOME. You are writing little ol' me a story about one of the films/dance production I love and adore more than chocolate. Ergo - awesome!

Please feel free to have a nosey around my journal to get a feel for me and my tastes inanities. I love and adore films - which will explain why all my requests are movies. I hope that you love these films too or if you're pinch hitting (*thank you*) then you'll grow to love the film you're writing about as much as I do.

This is my first time on the Yuletide Express, so please bear with my n00bish behaviours!

You'll find the tags of some use - the general 'movies' tag should be of some use. With regards to Swan Lake, my review of the 'current' production can be found here

If that's too 'general' then let me elucidate for you... *ahem*

I like a lot of things but there are a few hard and fast things I Do Not Like. They are:
Character death, kink, humiliation, partner betrayal, character bashing (especially women characters) porn minus plot, dark themes.
Fluffy monster is so *fluffy* you're gonna die (Despicable Me quote ftw!)

Okay - so, things I *do* like:
Plot, character-led stories, friendships, alternative realities where one thing changes (aka Sliding Doors 'verses), hugs/cuddling, women characters being awesome and competent, teams equaling 'chosen' families, happy(ish) endings, conversations/banter, films, kisses, laughter, humour, science, teamwork, adventures, slice of life stories, bromances, dancing, joy, life...

If you want to go down the sexyteims route (and given that at least three of my fandoms have some of the most beautiful people on the planet - knock yourself out!) - sensuality is key as is emotional engagement and consent among adults too.

I hope that makes some kind of sense - if not, ask the mods (or a hippo!) to ask me for more intel.

So - the fandoms:

Waffle and spoilers for 'Moon' (2009), Rocknrolla (2008), Sunshine (2007) and Matthew Bourne's 'Swan Lake' )

And that is that.

Obviously - these are just suggestions - if you, awesome writer, have a bunny that’s currently feasting on your ankle that you want to write then... fire up the word processor, draw yourself a beverage and WRITE! I’m sure I’m going to like it!

So - to conclude - have fun and I hope the fic you recieve is as awesome as you are!

Signed

If nobody else mentions the fact that I'm over a week late posting this, then neither will I.

Um - HAI!;)

So - without further ado...

A List of Things that were classifed as being Made of Awesome for January

- Doctor Who: End of Time Part II

- Introducing friends from different 'parts' of my life to each other... and no one ran away screaming (apart from my mascara - which is another story altogether!)

- Matthew Bourne's 'Swan Lake' - pretty men dancing to *beautiful* music never gets old!

- Being Human I have so much love for this series, it's becoming a little scary making - in a good way, mind;)

- The Mayor of Castro Street - The Life and Times of Harvey Milk, written by Randy Shilts. An excellent biography and a good starter on modern gay history. If anyone has any good recommendations for further reading - please share!

- Going to see La Cage Aux Folles again. Different cast this time around (Denis Lawson and Douglas Hodge as George and Albin/Zaza). Still a wonderful musical and who knew *Wedge Antillies* could sing?!

I *think* I've mentioned from time to time that I have a perchant for dance. I know I mentioned it when I talked about Torchwood 'Captain Jack Harkness' (or rather, see icon!)

Well, this is the production that started my love of dance off.

YouTube video of the Swans Dancing - Possibly NSFW )

Squeefest Ahoy! )

The production finishes at Sadlers Wells this weekend but is on tour around England and Wales from now to Easter (it's in Cardiff the week of mine and John Barrowman's birthdays - mine's 12/3, his is 11/3 - which is the only reason why I remember it - honest!).
It goes without saying that if you are a slasher - you need this in your life. The DVD should be borrowable from your local public Library or the rental service of your choice. Even if you aren't - go/watch it. It's a thing of beauty.

Oh - btw if anyone wants a copy of the soundtrack - yell. I have a copy and 'arrangements' can be made. Also, Cinderella (which hasn't been performed for nearly ten years) looks like it might be the next production for Christmas 2010. One thing is certain. Whatever this company do - I'll go to see it. Wonderful stuff.

John Barrowman singing and dancing around in shorts and undone shirt, ala Tom Cruise in Risky Business will never ever get old. If anyone sees the clip out on t'internet - holler. It's even more awesome than this is.

So, sitting here watching Strictly Come Dancing and...

Small spoiler for SCD and NCIS )

Oh and Linda Bellingham deserves to be voted for because a) she's a mature woman dancing with a cute bloke (nearly) half her age and b) she was the Inquisitor in 'Trial of a Timelord' during the Sixth Doctor's run on Doctor Who. If that doesn't sway the vote then nothing will!
