This must be rectified - AT ONCE!

Yes, I *know* there is also a trailer for The Avengers (2012) but... (and please, no houndin' me outta town on a rail for this kaithanxbai!) I am not grokking this yet.

It looks great and I am sure that when the time comes I will utterly adore it but... not at the moment. In my defence - I said pretty similar things about X-Men: First Class as well... and look how *that* turned out! Even so - will be there opening weekend. If I've caught up on my film watching by then...

* * *

So - next week This Means War opens - which as a McG film would have me scurrying in the complete and total opposite direction. Seriously. But there is this - which made my brain go *BOOM* (kudos to whoever found this!) and then there is this - read it just for the comment from Tom Hardy.

It's going to be utter crap - but hot guys, sharp suits, heavy ordnance and things going BOOM - that's a ticket sold.

* * *

Haven't read this through properly - but EW magazine on why Shame (2011) should be recognized for more than just the nude scenes. A Thousand Times YES! It was one of the best films I saw last year and one of the best for this year too. Also - it's utter snubbing by the Academy was a travesty beyond words (as was Captain America - The First Avenger but I want to concentrate on the squee)

* * *

A fic rec to finish our 'broadcast' day - Laws of Ownership by Thefarofixer (Kirk/Spock|Star Trek (2009)|PG) - a very gentle, sweet story that made me smile.

So, yes, Christmas happened. Shinzon is growing like the proverbial - he also has hair. Or an approximation of it. Photos to follow. Even so, it was good - there was food, there was family and there were Doctor Who (and book tokens - lots of book tokens!)

The Chrimbo Limbo also happened. I picked up a pinch hit for [livejournal.com profile] secret_mutant; tried that 'Life' thing everyone keeps talking about and watched not enough movies More on that when I do the December round up. So that's why I've been monster non-grata for a couple of days.

Something else that happened, as many will know, was [livejournal.com profile] yuletide. This year, to my astonishment, amazement and undying gratitude, I recieved not just one gift but THREE.

Yes, you read that right, THREE. I have no idea what I have done in the last year to be accorded such wealth but I would like to express my undying gratitude to those lovely folks who put pen to paper/fingers to keyboards for the following lovely stories:

Dreams, Many-colored (4183 words) by faviconboundbyspells
Fandom: Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences

Relationships: Jane Eyre/Edward Rochester
Characters: Jane Eyre, Edward Rochester, St. John Rivers

Threads (1061 words) by faviconfresne
Fandom: Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte, Destino - Salvador Dali/Walt Disney
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Jane Eyre/Edward Rochester

These two are borne from the same prompt - Bronte writes about Jane meeting Rochester in her dreams when they are apart and I asked for fic that deal with that. And these two jewels are the results. The first one conjures up all sorts of wonderful AUs for this paring (the Pirate!Rochester would suit the 2011 version down to the ground;)) not to mention it gives St John Rivers a fair hearing as well.

The second one is of especial note as it marries up Jane Eyre with Destino a collaboration between Dali and Disney. Which if you have never seen it, I do recommend that you take five minutes out to watch it as it is a thing of beauty. I love Dali's work and this marriage of these two wildly divergent canons is a beauty to behold.

My main 'gift' was this Oops! No, it wasn't! but it was still lovely!:
A New Normal (1434 words) by faviconBeatrice_Otter
Fandom: Superman Returns (2006)
Rating: General Audiences

Relationships: Lois Lane/Richard White
Characters: Lois Lane, Richard White, Clark Kent, Jason White

A lovely, sweet story, set post film that shows Clark, Richard and Lois coming together for the benefit of Jason to try and ensure that he has the best of both worlds. It's a lovely gen story that I recommend to all and sundry.

If any of my gifters are reading this - you are all awesome and I wish you nothing but a superb 2012 filled with lots of good things and helpful muses. Thank you again, you are all wonderful.

I cannot speak to my [livejournal.com profile] secret_mutant gift yet, as it hasn't been given yet but I am sure that when it arrives I will like it a lot. I haven't had much of a chance to read many of the other fics yet (see note above about trying to have a life. Not recommended!) but I am hoping that when everything calms down to a dull roar, I'll be able to finish going through both the [livejournal.com profile] yuletide archive and the [livejournal.com profile] secret_mutant collection to read All The Fics!

Needless to say, that as it's a new year, I have various 'housekeeping' tasks to do - such as setting up the Films Watched in...' list (now in it's sixth year!) and to post my [livejournal.com profile] yuletide story and make a few comments on it.

So in short - prepare to be spammed;) And I hope that everyone has a wonderful 2012!

So this is the ARGH!Induction week post! Or, in the spirit of honesty 'Yay! It's over for another year!'

Everyone else comes back on Monday - and 'normalcy' (or what passes for that) returns.

In the meantime - linkies!

Sasha Baron Cohen is being lined up to play Freddie Mercury in a Queen biopic. This could be either amazing or appalling. I'll keep an eye on this one.

Beautiful song and a gorgeous picspam

I haven't seen this yet, but it's the Star Wars Mahna Mahna Song

For those of you who think I watch a lot of movies...this guy makes me look like a slacker! - 500 films in one year

If you're into Inception fandom - you may have already read this - but if you haven't:
The Gates of Horn and Ivory by [livejournal.com profile] jibrailis. Read the warnings but duuuude!

And that's all I got right now;)

N.B. neither the icon or the title of this post have anything to do with the content... in case you were wondering!

Scientists claim that the Large Hadron Collider is being 'sabotaged' by it's own *future*

Does anyone want to tell them that stuff like time travel is fiction?! But if they do have the Doctor on speed dial... will they please share?

***

Two recs in two days... I *must* be setting a new, personal record here;) but this is utterly *wonderful*...

The Other written by [livejournal.com profile] rivier Sarah Jane Adventures/Torchwood (32,000 words approx)

I'll quote her summary - " It started innocently enough... " This is simply the story of a very quiet weekend in the Whoniverse. No gore, no vomitty monsters, quite a lot of tea being consumed.

Well worth your time for a read. If only *this* was canon

***

Right - now I have to go put my story wrangling gloves on... I know what I want to say but it's getting it into the right order that's the problem!

Just quickly running in to say...

Hope everyone had a damn fine Christmas. Mine was good and quiet, which is one of the best ways to have 'em. Also...

Also want to share the following...

Some self-pimping: Diamonds aren't forever, they're fifteen to twenty, written by moi for the [livejournal.com profile] ncis_tinsel fic fest.

All the more astonishing because... I wasn't going to be writing anything until about 4pm yesterday afternoon! Never underestimate the power of Sean Connery movies!

Secondly - while there is a boatload of awesome fic from the Yuletide fic fest - this one deserves to be pimped for it's sheer out and out crackiness.

Marvin's Adventures in US Politics Looney Tunes/Torchwood/The West Wing.

I wish I could do it justice but... I can't. Just read and laugh (and leave feedback of course!)

My [livejournal.com profile] femme_fic story was very well received, Asking Answered Questions. Go read and leave feedback - what? Can blame a girl for trying can you?

In return, I was gifted with Black is Life beautifully written by [livejournal.com profile] vicki595 (NCIS, Abby, Kate). It is made of awesome and should be read by everyone with a taste for well written NCIS fic.

A full list of fics written for the ficathon can be found here - here. There are a whole slew of fandoms and a hell of a lot of good fic to read.

New NCIS tonight somewhere on the planet! This can only be of the good. y/y.

A 'good' source has uncovered some facts about Series 3 of Torchwood. As in there will be one. Which is always a good start!
If said source is reading this - do you mind if I link to what you found?

The Bowl of Petunias
Nearly a year to the *day* after the last one... TV Guide reports that another NCIS shakeup is in the offing - spoilers in the story

I will not be attending the Annual Doctor Who Premiere bash, taking place at an undisclosed location in London this year. I am working *shakes small fist of rage at the Universe for plotting to have Easter so damn early this year!*

Thus, I present - Five Three things that are made of AWESOME!

Thing One
'Sapphire and Steel' - A Beginners Guide (IMAGE HEAVY)

If you've ever watched either Small Worlds or From Out Of The Rain (both Torchwood) and wondered if the writer of those two superb stories had written anything else... Look no further.

If you're a fan of the wierd, the strange, the creepy and the downright beautiful - then click away.

If you're looking for a new fandom playground, one with possibilities for het and slash and threesomes; where the leads are headturningly beautiful, the main characters have no concept of personal space. Step right this way.

For the NCIS fen on my flist - Ducky in his younger even hotter than now! days. For those of you old enough to remember the series (and were scared half to death by it, it's okay to admit it) - a trip down memory lane. You know it makes sense!

Thing Two
Faded Photographs written by [livejournal.com profile] hearts_blood (NCIS/Man From UNCLE Ducky, Kate, Gen, PG.)

Possibly the best 'Ducky IS Illya Kuryakin' story I've ever come across.
Takes a certain comment made by Gibbs in 'Meat Puzzle' as it's starting point (no prizes for guessing which one!;)) and weaves both canons together subtly and brilliantly.

I don't know if there will be more - she seems to be following DMcC from fandom to fandom like... well, 90% of most fangirls, but if she does - it will be worth it!

Thing Three
Indiana Jones and the Taters of the Lost Ark

This makes me squee like no one's business. And yes, I do want one!

FLIST PARTICIPATION TIME!
Cite/nominate your own thing made of awesome. Can be silly, can be serious - fire away. Yes, the Torchwood finale and new Doctor Who can be nommed;)

- One word review of 'Timecrash': AWESOME!
Five was my first Doctor and to see him again... after all these years was just wonderful. Word to Steven Moffat: Dude, you ever need any research done, call me. Happily do it gratis.

- Two more things before I move on:
i) I have rediscovered my Doctor Who squee thanks to the aforementioned.
ii) It took me nearly 12 hours to get the beard=wife gag. I'll hand in my 'dyed in the wool' slashers card at the door.

- Desmond Tutu states that "If God as they say is homophobic I wouldn't worship that God."
All right thinking people quote BSG by saying 'So Say We All'.

- John Barrowman did the nearly impossible on Friday night. He performed a version of 'Your Song' (the Moulin Rouge mix) that was almost as wonderful as the orginal. I'm going to have to buy the album at some point.

- Somebody has DEFINTELY got my number. Ben and Jerry's lipbalms

Finally. A rec for everyone who adored Transformers. Pieces of the Dead by [livejournal.com profile] hradzka.
Long, plotty, superb characterisation and just bloody wonderful. And if anyone can point me in the direction of some good Transformers icons, I'd appreciate it (Mabi? Have you done any?)

I am hoping that very soon, I will be posting from a new computer. He is in the house, just not online yet. I am hoping that this will be achieved soon.

Anything else I need to know about?

Right ho...

Those Stargate SG-1 recs I mentioned in my previous posting...

The April Challenges on Pepe's Place

Stories of note... Pepe's entry, then there's this drabble by Ali B, which given the recent(and not so recent) changes in British law means that this is more than plausible!;)

One final one before I wrap it up (and pray that the frelling coding holds this time around... grr!) Berty's entry [livejournal.com profile] bertybertle which can be found over at her lj: Raindance

ETA - ya! It works;)

Fic recs - come and get your fic recs while they're hot;)

Okay - first up, presenting Galactica Noir A WIP, yes, but it's a total crackfic! that needs to be shared. Written by [livejournal.com profile] ghoulsis it's a melange of Raymond Chandler and '04 BSG and it works beautifully! You don't really need to know much about Battlestar Galactica (other than character names) but it does help;) Also it has a strong leaning towards Adama (Snr) and Roslin... which I admire greatly because... yeah!;)

Galactica Noir Part One

Galactica Noir Part Two

Next up... a story that I happened upon by searching through someone else's lj (Wotcha [livejournal.com profile] _minxy_) After the whole shebang with LJ not showing my posts up on other people's ljs for a week, it was a good idea to 'check' that my posts were showing up... While I was doing so, I ended up browsing through, as you do, and I kept picking bits and peices up. A couple of new people to friend, a new comm [livejournal.com profile] reel_sga and a fic or three too.

Which is where I found this: Springier by Jet.

Yes, it's an X-Files fic. Yes, I do feel that this sums up the relationship between Mulder and Scully beautifully. Yes, I am on disc two of Season two and enjoying it intensely. It's part relieving memories of a very good time and discovering a damn fine tv show. Now if I can only find some Skinner smut I will be one very happy monster:D

I have some SG-1 recs as well but the coding is playing silly buggers so I shall try again later. Best that I walk away and get some chocolate. Know what I'm saying?;)

Right... before I go, one question. Watched the Farscape episode 'Revenging Angel' yesterday and... What on Earth (or any other reality you might care to mention) were the writers on? That must have been some frelling good crack!

Without giving too much away... Farscape + Looney Tunes = serious weirdness! Oh and Skinner has just told Krychek to take Mulder home... take those damn slashy vibes AWAY! I'm begging here;)
