So... [livejournal.com profile] aurora_novarum asked for my five favourite secondary characters from Stargate: SG-1...

i) Maj General George Hammond
Even when SG-1 were off doing who knew what (or who), Hammond kept the whole show on the road with care, compassion and charisma. The show lost a certain something in S8 when he was written out but... that's for someone else to debate.

ii) Dr Janet Fraiser
The Napoleonic Powermonger herself - who was pretty much the 5th team member... Who kept everyone patched up and to a certain extent, via Cassie, human too.

iii) Jacob Carter and Selmak
Cards on the table time... I *adored* these two. Whenever Carmen Argenziano's name came up in the credits, I always knew it was going to be a good episode because Jacob and Selmak - let's not forget the old(er) coot! - were always awesome. The less said about 'Threads' the better! (It's not in the same league as say Torchwood but it's still swimming in denile!)

iv) Thor
I loved the Asgard. Not to mention consider 'The Fifth Race' to be one of the best episodes of S2. I didn't watch Season 10, so anything that happened then isn't canon for me...

v) Ba'al.
An utter git who was as trustable as a snake, in one of my all-time favourite episodes ('Abyss') and very hot to boot... What's not to love?

The Top Five 'Whatevers' is still open - most stuff is open for discussion... TV, Movies, Books... you name it, I'll try and answer it!

The good news:
Noel Streatfield's Ballet Shoes' gets a US cinematic release. Which will please [livejournal.com profile] wiccagirl24 no end.

The not so good news:
Quantum of Solace opening date moved to 11/14. Two weeks after it's UK bow. Blame Harry Potter.
Not that there will be spoilers, of course. This is me. Expect plenty of squee over Daniel Craig mind... The most thinky I'll be is a comparison between Craig's Bond and Illya Kuryakin!

In other news: Bond producers won't be adapting 'Devil May Care' - anyone want to bet that they'll just take the title instead?

The bad news:
Nearly two years to the day since it's 'parent' show was cancelled... Stargate: Atlantis is canned. To be rapidly replaced by a bright 'shiny' new show aimed at a younger demographic. Like that's gonna work.

*Quote attributed to David Tennant upon his first fitting for the overcoat (made from a sofa, honest!) he wears as #10.

I HAS COOKIES! It's just as much a surprise to realise it's been going for nearly a year. Only seems like a few months. Time does fly when you're having fun.

Which pleases me greatly. Don't laugh, but I am hoping that this baby will be finished by the end of the month. So I can take the pinch hit I'm writing off to Cardiff with me. A girl can dream.

I posted fic. Het fic at that There might be a sequel. Once I've gotten on top (fnar, fnar) of my other series/stories. So expect it about 2009. No, that's not a joke.

Okay - time and fanfic wait for nobody!

And this time... It's bringing friends!

I have no useful content for today other than two things:

a) I have been very stupid and volunteered to pinch hit

and

b) I have passed 1,000 words on my 'original' story.

Yes, just when you thought it was safe to get back into the water...:D The thing is - it I get the majority of this story (and that's not including the sex scene - yes, you read that right! I'm going to write a sex scene. Gods help us all!) written in under 5,000 it will be a miracle of biblical proportions!

Anyway - [livejournal.com profile] ncis_newsletter has been put to bed, now to do the [livejournal.com profile] sg1_debrief tagging for the day and then... see if I can't get another hundred odd words on my fic in!

No rest for the insane;)

My favourite TV shows, past and present )

Please also note, that I work on UK speed for all my shows (the caveat to this being Life on Mars and Battlestar Galactica which I watch at DVD speed. Spoil me and die!. So while a show, ferexample NCIS might be near the end of it’s season in the U.S. it might have just started showing in the U.K… which might explain why some squee posts are about episodes that were shown some time ago in other territories!

Post a list of your top five fics favorite you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most. Then tag five other people to do the same.

Broken Stones SG-1, Sam, Gen. Like the song it's named after, it reminds me of a place and a time that is very dear to me. The fact it got recc'ed is neither here nor there...;)

Short Scenes About Love SG-1, Team, Het/Slash/Gen. One of my first stories written in SG-1 fandom and one of the most challenging (each piece had to fit into a page!) I've done. Covers a hell of a lot in four pages and I'm proud of it;)

Paved With Good Intent NCIS, slash, Tony, R. One of the first stories I wrote for NCIS. Given that I write so...damn...sloooowly, getting this turned around in two weeks (it was originally written for an [livejournal.com profile] ncis_flashfic challenge) was a hell of an achievement. Not to mention that I think I got a good handle on DiNozzo while indulging one of my kinks

Floatin' your boat NCIS, R, drabble, Abby, Tony (implied Gibbs/DiNozzo). Written as an attempt to try to grok Abby's 'voice'. This wrote itself, I swear;)

Last Wish Doctor Who, Gen, drabble (spoilers for Genesis of the Daleks and Parting of the Ways) I got bit by the bunny for this at about 3 am in the morning. The only way to shut it up was to write it there and then (thank the 'verse for laptops). 'Haunting' sums it up, I feel.

As for tagging... If you're reading this - then consider yourself tagged! Please, link back so I may read as well;)

The State of the Beckymonster )

So... there I was on Monday, at work, trying to tidy my desk. I may organize information for a living, but my desk? 'Atomic' and 'Bombsite' are usually good adjectives to describe my work area. Mme Director had decreed that this was To Be So. Cue an awful lot of peeved staff. Including me.
This is to give you an idea of my state of mind when I read the following...

My story 'Broken Stones' as recced on [livejournal.com profile] stargateficrec

You have no frelling idea how happymaking this was.
At first it was like 'Broken Stones? I have a story called that....' reads some more 'HOLEEE FRAK MONKEYS!!!! I'VE BEEN RECC'ED!!!!'

Now, a little meta as to why this was so happymaking )

ZOMG!!!! Mark and Karen won Strictly Come Dancing! After last week's Argentine Tango, this is not a surprise - but I do have to say that Matt Dawson was just as fantastic. Trying to decide a winner, for myself, was almost as hard as trying to decide who's my favourite Doctor out of #9 and #10!

Both wonderful and both amazing to watch. Not to mention about £4 million odd raised for charity in the process!

Right - the pit is calling. I will check in tomorrow (hopefully) just to wish everyone seasons greetings and all... you understand;)

So I'm looking for information on del.icio.us about how much text you can put into the notes field. My thinking being that it would be a godsend - not just for helping students/staff find the most up to date intel but for the EVIL!Charter beastie. Put in notes about why the article was useful, how it can be used for my work... Yadda.

When I found this... Why did you cancel Stargate: SG-1

Is it sad to say that this made me smile giggle like a very weird person?

Serkit missig to [livejournal.com profile] splash_the_cat - I grok - what do you want me to do?

So the Stargate Fan Awards 2006 have been announced. Congrats to those on der flist who were nominated/won. For the rest of us... we can but dream, huh;)

I noticed something verrrry interesting about the two awards for best Drama in the Slash catergories (one for SG-1 and one for Atlantis - so save any confusion)

One is by a writer who is disliked (and that's being polite!) by many in the fandom and is held up as a model of badfic! If you've ever heard the epiteph 'beagles' being used in conjunction with fanfic, it's thanks to this writer.

The other is by a writer who also writes professionally. I've read some of her professional writings and deem it to be very, very good stuff indeed. I am very glad to say, that I ain't the only one who thinks this. One of the finest directors working today (and given my movie geekiness, know I do not say those words at all lightly!) has optioned her first work, to be made into a film by him and his illustrious, award winning crew.

It's not just me seeing something utterly, utterly DIRTYBADWRONG!!! with this picture is it?!
