So - I have returned from Edinburgh. A lot of fun was had - and if your definition of 'fun' includes having to rethink your travel plans on the hoof - then yes, a lot of fun was had by all!

There is a story there - one that will be funny in a few weeks time but right now - oy!

My main reason for visiting Edinburgh was for the film festival - I shall report back on what I saw - with photos (including random ones of buses and guys in kilts) later - but for now, I am here and I am hoping to be more 'here' from here on in.

It's a good hope is it not?

Trundling forward - or at very least, trying to trundle forward. In a literal sense on Friday as I go to Edinburgh for the Edinburgh Film Festival. They're showing Brave, which, is not released in the UK until mid-August. We may have gotten Avengers and Prometheus a week before the US but this is taking the urine somewhat.

Even so - it's going to be a weekend in one of the loveliest cities I can think of, so there is that.

* * *

In other news - work is undergoing one of it's periodic 're-structures'. Usually the ones who get 're-structured' are the pay grade above me. Not this time, not so much, but the main thing is that I will still have a job and I will get on and re-apply for my professional exams as this time I need to have the paperwork as of my qualifications for my job.

My main reasons for not getting them done before has been that I have had no incentive to get them done (what can I say? I'm goal orientated;)) but now? I have. So, consider this fair warning that there will be whining ahead.

* * *

Mr Spock (my much beloved car) went in for his first MOT test last week. And true to form, for me anyway, he failed. But in comparison to other failures, it was relatively minor (brake pads were worn down - which is a *good* thing!) and not as 'expensive', I've had to buy new cars before!

Could have done with a little more notice regarding the failure - the garage didn't phone and if I hadn't called and just gone to collect the car.... I would have been stranded 20 miles from home, having missed the last bus. Thankfully, the crisis was averted but the meltdown would have been spectacular, mind.

* * *

In more 'fannish' news - currently working on a story for [livejournal.com profile] xmenreversebang - I've not finished it but I am over the lower limit, so it's a goer. The art is a thing of *joy* - it's just a shame that the muse decided to go on a monumental walkabout at the same time. Still - it's words on a page and I'm hoping that more will follow.

* * *

So, that's me. How are you guys?

O hai! Internets! How are you all?. Me? Went away for a few days for my birthday - to Paris (France) and had a lovely time eating food that involved chocolate and embarrassing myself with my godawful French. Thankfully the French speak superb English - which just makes matters worse. They also subtitle 'Hollywood' films - which is v.cool.

I spent the actual day of my birthday - last Monday at Disneyland Paris. Because. Also, nothing says 'birthday' like going on All The Rollercoasters and laughing hysterically*. Whether not wearing my glasses helped, (or more correctly - didn't) is a matter of debate. I also took more photos than strictly necessary - part of the course;)

*yes, I scared people. I may be small, female, English/Irish but I have a laugh like The Predator.

* * *

I would have come back online a couple of days ago but... I fell ill. You don't need the details but from what I can tell it was (possibly) the Norovirus - think the 'flu with vomiting and diarrhoea and you're reasonably close. Felt like I'd been run over by a *bus*. All thanks to the much beloved nephew who had given it to his mum and then to the rest of his family over the weekend.

Family - you have to love them;)

* * *

Obviously *everyone* knows that the new Doctor Who Companion has been announced - SPOILERS sweetie. The only thing I have to say on the matter is that I am on the fence.

At first blush, zie seems more of the same. As much as I had beef with RTD's tenure (mostly towards the end) - at least there was *some* variation with regards to companion. Hell, we even had guys as companions. Even so, I feel that I will not be alone on said fence...

Is there a way to 'automate' journal back-ups between here and Dreamwidth ala 'Time Machine' for Mac - which I love and adore!

Or a way of just moving over the few (okay - twenty odd!) entries I've made since the last back up?

Not that I'm thinking of moving but... there are reports that the DDOS from last week was by the same chaps as the April one and this time they threw 'wrath of God' type firepower at LJ.

Said it before - say it again. I leave here when the KGB drag my sorry arse out.

In happier news - I am on maneuvers. Currently in the city that features in one of my favourite films of this year. And will be going to the city that features in the writings of one of my favourite authors before the end of the week too. So, in other words, if I take forever to get back to you like that's any different from usual?!, you know why!

I'm going to be spamming with intent over the next couple of days. So consider this fair warning;)

One thing to do is to post the fics I wrote for the various holiday challenges of which there were three (which considering that I had only written one story up to that point - I'm quite pleased by that;)). My Yuletide fic and the two [livejournal.com profile] incept_santa stories I wrote as well.

I need to rec stories I received as well - I'll get onto that shortly. They were all awesome but I need to give them love.

*

Another thing is to set up this year's 'Films Watched in...' post - now in it's fifth year holy sh*t! but this year there will be a difference! Instead of just listing the films I have seen, I am going to try to watch and post about one Hundred And One films this year.

I've already got one under my belt (let's not talk about the hundred I still have to write;)) with Tron: Legacy. I'll be talking about a variety of films - new stuff I've seen at the cinema and stuff that I've seen on DVD, either for the first time or the 100th time - 101+ words on the film and what I thought of it.

The main reason for this is because I realised while writing World You Thought You Lived In and the three aforementioned stories, that I *miss* writing. Since I don't really have a fandom at present (and boy, is that a post for another time!) writing about movies will help fill that gap. Unless I give in to the temptation to write that NC-17 rated Tron: Legacy fic involving a returning character and the unexpected!cameo...

Just don't ask! Please, your sanity will thank you

*

I haven't spoke about my gallivant to Glasgow yet - mainly because there isn't much to say. Everything I wanted to see was either closed for the holidays, in another country or off sick with the 'flu. Still, it didn't snow - which given the weather over the last few weeks is a plus!

*

So, while I go watch gaze at! Professor Brian Cox, how are you guys?

I've no idea whether I'll be able to get onto a computer (unlikely) so if anyone is waiting for anything from me - Friday is going to be the earliest I can do *anything*

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to finish packing and try not to stress too much over the fact that National Rail Enquirires have no record of my train...

See you all Friday!

DAY SIX - WHATEVER TICKLES YOUR FANCY

I've been thinking about holidays recently; one of the possibles for 2010 is a road trip. One of the cities I'm thinking of visiting is one that has more than played it's part in Doctor Who. That city is, of course...

London Daily Photo A photo a day of London. Quirky, beautiful and well worth a look.

Even if you haven't seen Watchmen... take a look at exhibits 'B' and 'F'. Utterly *awesome* (hat tip to [livejournal.com profile] knitmeapony for the heads up.)

Also, I could not have been the only person who was small spoiler for 'Watchmen' comic and film ).

Casablanca - the Penguin ending. Because even one of the best movies ever(tm) can be improved by penguins!

Doctor Who will be on at Easter. The site said Saturday earlier but not it's not... Oh well, at least we know it's on!

Am alive.

Went to Glasgow. Had a wonderful time, despite the fact that the Clyde (river) tried it's best to drown me! There will be a full report and photos... at some point.

If there is anything I owe (bar the [livejournal.com profile] ncis_newsletter) then it will be late.

If there is anything of note, links will be much appreciated! I haven't looked at LJ for a week and I *know* it's going to be at least back 500+ before I get anywhere near the end.... oy!
