Okay - the last couple of days have been a bit... manic, so this post might take a while....
I'm running behind something rotten - haven't had a chance to watch the last episode of BSG yet - so no telling me what happens! As for my e-mail, logged on and it said that there were 195 e-mails waiting for me. If I get caught up by Easter it's going to be a minor miracle!
Anyway -
Went a hell of a lot better than I thought it would be. I had whinged earlier that the family had pretty much decided where my birthday dinner was to be held... pretty much without my input. Which was nice! (please note the sarcasm!)
Wellll... came home from a fun gallivant in London, to my mum saying she had a think about the whole thing and would I prefer TGI Fridays instead... Would I hecky?! Course I would!!
Not only that but everyone would be satisfied with the menu there (Dad can be quite conservative in his food choices sometimes - if he can't have steak... then there is a problem!) So we had a lovely dinner there - Dad had half a cow (or so it seemed - damn steak was huge!)
Spoke to all of my sisters - including SU#2 who 'forgot' to speak to me on my birthday last year - pissed off much! which was interesting. I think she was digging at me for taking so long to save for my NZ jaunt but... unfortunately RL gets in the way sometimes.
So I would like to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart who wished me a happy birthday. It was greatly appreciated!
Technically, I can't see properly right now. Everything is just slightly blurry. Which is better than earlier... where everything was a BIG blur! If you've ever had to get your eyes examined minutely, you'll know that drops are put in them to make them easier to look at.
Well, that's why I can't see properly. Did you know that they use Iodine on crack for those drops? Either that or liquid razorblades! Hurt like bastards they did. Though to my credit, I did not swear... out loud that is;) It was a close run thing, mind!
So... to bring you all up to speed...
Boxing day, I woke up and found that my vision in my right eye was not what it should be. There was a distinct lack of vision there. So much so, that I couldn't read past the top line on the opticians eye chart of doom!
Did I mention that when I originally presented with this at the optician, she did something (covered my left eye and most of my right I think) and asked if I could see a light she was shining... What light?!
Scared?
Words cannot describe the terror I felt. So she did some checking, said it was a cellophane macularsomething or the other and said I should see the specialists at my local hospital.
That was 12/31.
I saw the Opthalmic Surgeon today and... I'm fine. I have about 85% vision in my right eye. I made it to third from bottom on the Eye Chart of Doom! before I crapped out. Left eye - flying colours - read it all no problems (apart from the fact I was wearing my glasses at the time!;)). It's not perfect, but it could be a hell of a lot worse. Whatever it was is gone.
The distortion I can still see is called 'Macular Scarring'. As to what caused it... Next silly question! No, the surgeon didn't know either. It was either a fluid leak at the back of my eye or a kind of haemorrage. There was no real warning - I had an eye test three months before and apart from a slight decrease in my sight, I was clear.
The short version is that I now have another scar to add to my collection (one on my forehead, one on my right knee... and now one in my right eye!) and they'll call me back next week for a photograph of the eye (who knows, it might end up in a opthal textbook! Get a copy of that for work!;)) and they'll call me back in six months for a check.
They'll inform my opticians - which is good as I am due a contact lens check before I go back to the clinic. That will be a fun consultation!;)
So yeah - colour me relieved!:D
The muse is still on the missing list, but now I have a clean bill of health and the birthday stress is behind me... hopefully he'll put in an appearance soon!
