So - here are the rules:

1. Reply to this post with "excalibur", and I will pick five of your icons.

2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.

3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.

4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon glee.

[livejournal.com profile] aurora_novarum asked me about these:

Icon Key Words - movies_xmfc_slash_ready - icon by [livejournal.com profile] i_rise_inside

Okay - the really short version? X-Men: First Class was pretty much the movie of the summer for me. I was hoping that it would be good. I just wasn't expecting to be utterly *bowled* over by it. And I sure as heck wasn't expecting to fall hopelessly (again!) for the actors who played my favourite characters - Professor Charles Xavier and Erik 'Magneto' Lensherr.

I have plot bunnies bouncing around me - so many of the damn buggers - but I just need time and desire to write. Both are a bit thin on the ground - but I am hopeful (or else I will make them - somehow!). Still, this image makes me happy as it reminds me not just of a superb film but of the 'Aren't-Movies-Kewl?!' trailer that was shown before every damn film I saw for at least three months over summer.

It involved clips from most films that were showing over the summer - for XM:FC - the dialogue was simply:

XAVIER - Are you ready for this?
LENSHERR - Let's find out.

If there is one thing I love about icons, it's when they can mash up two (or more) fandoms at once. Not only does it mean that they can work double shift but there's usually a good joke in there too.

See above for what I mean;) It's one of my *oldest* icons and it's still one that makes me smile everytime I see it. It's the grin that does it. Nine had what I call a 'sunshine through clouds' grin. Doesn't happen very often, is very quick but when it does... all the more beautiful for it.

Oh 'Verse, I still *miss* Nine

Icon Key Words - Books Hobbes Back - icon by [livejournal.com profile] fooish_icons

Now this is a matter of interpretation. In context, I am sure this image is from a sequence of Hobbes preparing to do one of his legendary 'attacks' on Calvin. If you've seen them - they are usually some of the funniest strips that Watterson did for C&H.

For me, this has a different meaning. It's my 'Furious Monster is FURIOUS' icon. So there will be blood, swears and general bad behaviour. I don't use it very often but when I do... consider it your five second warning.

Icon Key Words - DW_Fandom two hearts - icon by [livejournal.com profile] nostalgia_lj

Like the above, this icon has a very definite purpose. Whereas that one expresses anger - this one expresses... well, heartbreak. Especially those moments when my heart is in pieces on the floor (usually over a film or a TV show - *coughTorchwood:Children Of Earth Day Fourcough*) and there is nothing I can do about it other than sob my guts up and rant about it on LJ.

Needless to say that I haven't used it for a little while - I'm glad to say;)

Icon Key Words - books_hhgttg_ohnoes! - icon by... I *still* don't know!

Saving the best for last - this is one of my all time favourite icons. It's been my default more times than strictly necessary. If you know Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy, you know the scene - the bowl of petunias kill me everytime.

"Oh no, not again."

So - there you go! Queries, questions, general heckling?

DAY TWENTY FOUR - WHATEVER TICKLES YOUR FANCY

I will freely admit that I really do *not* like the number of 'whatever tickles your fancy posts' as I never have a blinking clue what to talk about!?!

So - for this one I am going to go on a tangent and pick out my five favourite episodes of the Doctor Who spin-off, Torchwood.

No prizes for guessing which episodes or don't! I pick;)

In chronological order (of airing):

CAPTAIN JACK HARKNESS

Four more under the cut - no spoilers, just pretty pictures! )

Thing One

DAY TWENTY THREE - A WHO-RELATED YOU TUBE VIDEO

This? Is hilarious. Found via Sci-Fi Wire:

TARDIS stops - past and future )

Thing Two

Scientists at CERN are using sound to find/track the Higgs Boson (if it even exists!) Either that or the BBC Radiophonic Workshop are back in business!

Seriously now - is there some sort of correlation between physics and music? Or am I seeing patterns that aren't there?

Some may remember that I mentioned a while ago that I had spent the budgies for this year?

Um - TPTB don't quite agree - from *somewhere* they have found £15,000 (for all schools - mine is getting about £3,000, that's about $5,000) to spend on 'certain' resources by FRIDAY (or near enough).

Anyone who is thinking that this is *easy* - there are strings attached. They have to be electronic academic texts, preferably reading list material.

As Eleven would say... 'Squeaky Bum Tiem!'

[livejournal.com profile] nialla42 any sage words of advice would be greatly received. [livejournal.com profile] celandineb - are you *sure* you want to do academic?!

DAY TWENTY TWO - A WHO RELATED FANSITE

Mainly because it is possibly one of the best sources of info out there, I humbly advocate [livejournal.com profile] who_daily for all your Doctor Who related needs.

It covers *everything*, I usually just scan it for the news (of which there is oodles of the stuff) but it does fic, art, meta and everything in between. You name it, it's likely to be on their radar.

That and having been a news editor myself ([livejournal.com profile] ncis_newsletter '07-'09) I can only bow down to the *scale* of their efforts. On a *bad* night of about 25 items+ it would take me about an hour, hour plus to code the newsletter. These guys must take nearly five hours on their *bad* nights (usually right after a new episode broadcast).

So - I cite these as today's entry.

TARDIS stops - past and future )

And to finish off... One year ago today, I went to a car dealership across the town from where I work and I handed over the keys to my (then) current car my fiscal freedom for the next five years! and I was given the keys to a beautiful little blue Fiat Panda, whom I fell in love with the moment I clapped eyes on him.

Yes, my beloved Mr Spock is a year old today. So...

Yes, this is slightly crazy to wish my car a happy birthday but my journal, my rules!

Today is not that day!

This is another one of those 'I can't think what to wriiiiite!' entries, so please feel free to scroll past. It will be the last one - I can think of things to say to all the others!;)

Although if you are still reading and need a plot bunny... Relates to a spoiler from the beginning of the Season 5 Doctor Who Finale )

DAY TWENTY - THE CHARACTER WHO IS MOST LIKE YOU

In a way, I'd say any of the characters that were female, intelligent, curious and a little bit in love with the Doctor... which - lets be honest - there are a few;)

DAY NINETEEN - THE SCENE THAT MADE YOU CRY THE MOST As the post title suggests - I'm going to stretch the meaning on this one just a tad. Alright, to the point where it *squeaks*. Why? Because I'm nominating: Which isn't a scene, it's the whole damn episode. If it's not Jack saying 'goodbye' to both Rose and the Doctor (a scene that's only 30 seconds long but homg it breaks me everytime1) it's Rose's 'It was me Mum, it was me!' when she tells Jackie about who was with Pete when he died. Jackie's unswerving love. Then there is Mickey. He *knows* that he's fighting a losing cause but just like Jack, he goes out swinging. Let's not talk about the last time we see Jack. Heartbreaking doesn't even cover it. Most of all, it's those final words from Nine. "You were fantastic, and so was I!" When these scenes were being filmed, no one really knew whether the series was going to be a success or not (we now know what the answer is to that;)) but one thing is for sure, if that was all we got then it went out in style. Obviously, we now know differently;) Ecclestone has gone on the record saying that he is proud of what he did (and he did a *lot*) and I am content that we at least were given this much. In short - this is the one that makes me cry the most. My favourite finale. Or at least it is until we see what Moffat does;) TARDIS stops - past and future )

Ever get involved with something and think 'What In The Name Of Rassilon AM I DOING?!'

Having that sensation right now. I hate to be a tease but when I reach a certain point, I will speak about it. It's just that right now - paperbags would be *really* useful!

Onwards!

DAY SIXTEEN - YOUR FAVOURITE WHO-RELATED FIC

It's nice when I get questions that I can rattle off the answer without really thinking about it. And this is one of them.

So, the fic I am nominating is [livejournal.com profile] sam_storyteller's 'Ruleverse' stories

The Rulesverse is set in the general DW universe, starting in the time where Season 1 of Torchwood and Season 3 of Doctor Who intersect. The bit where Jack's last seen running after a 1960's police box and Harold Saxon is on the brink of a *huge* landslide....

Well, to help with Jack's 'disappearance', TW3 take on Nicholas. Upon his arrival, Nicholas is shown the 'Rules of Torchwood Three' and it goes from there. And it is *awesome*. If you want the DW specific stories, head for The TARDIS House Rules (which is a sequel and it does help if you've read the first one to get the gist!)

They're gen with canon shenanigans (and greenhouses!) but they are glorious and I love them. Also! [livejournal.com profile] sam_storyteller has been muttering about addendums based on S5 so....

Go! Read!

DAY FOURTEEN - THE VILLAIN WHO SCARED YOU THE MOST

I don't scare easy when it comes to Doctor Who. It makes me laugh, cry, jump and sometimes get angry but it doesn't 'scare' me. That was until a certain moment in 'The Time Of Angels'.

It was so simple - the Weeping Angel slowly (stop motion jerky slow) turns it head towards the camera....

Aaaand I nearly dived behind the sofa. In sheer *terror*! So, I hereby nominate the Weeping Angels. And also because the Gas Mask People don't really count.

Tomorrow's is going to be tricksy - I don't know the first *thing* about Tumblr... there may have to be some tapdancin'....
