Is there a beta in the house?
Aug. 20th, 2013 09:43 pmSurprised kitty is surprised by two posts in three days. Can't say as I blame it;)
* * *
I have a *thing* that needs looking over. Mainly for spelling & grammar; but if you've seen both Torchwood and Zero Dark Thirty a) congratulations on having such eclectic taste! and b) you'll get the gist!
Leave a comment etc.
* * *
In other news, I think I should start up a list entitled 'Things I Have Researched In The Name of FanFic'.
In the last couple of days, it would include:
- The calendar for the year 2025
- The BBC World Service and how they announce the News
- Air Force One
- English Bulldogs
- Austrailian Meat Pies might also make the cut but I have that information from when I was doing research on an Inception fic from way back when. The perils of being a librarian - you remember *everything* and if you don't... you have to look it up.
* * *
To be filed under 'Stuff that makes me spitting mad':
The (London) Guardian - 'David Miranda, schedule 7 and the danger that all reporters now face' - the basics of the story are that the partner of the Guardian journo, who broke the Snowden case, a Brazilian citizen, was held at Heathrow for nine hours, under 'terrorism' laws but not charged.
The UK has many things going for it - freedom of speech enshrined by law ain't one of them as this case shows. 'Horrified' springs to mind.
Also - LJ is borking my coding - Whiskey Tango Foxtrot! EDIT - as we say at work... there is an issue between the keyboard and the chair! ooops...
And now for 'Stuff that makes me very happy'
Which would be links to Neil Gaiman speaking about him writing another Doctor Who episode; Travis Beacham (writer of Pacific Rim) speaking about his joy at what his little creation has wrought and the comment that the film is edging over the 400 million mark regarding Box Office takings - which is a hell of a chunk of change and may signal a sequel. Mayplease, O great goddess of geeks! Carry on.
If anyone sees any 'Hot Dads From Pacific Rim' icons, send 'em my way... Yeah, I think the 'new fandom klaxon' went off *weeks* ago and I didn't notice it... ahem!
And on that note - I shall leave y'all in peace!

( NEW DOCTOR WHO! (video under the cut for those of you who don't want to see a single frame before 30/3;)) )
Thoughts? Other than - it's how long until the 30th?!

C'est La Vie
Jan. 23rd, 2013 08:38 pmSo, the thing I thought I was 'supposed' to be doing (that is posting my
xmenbigbang fic) yesterday? *Should* be happening on 1st February instead. Which is a good thing as I've just gone and added another 1,100 words to it.
Oops.
So, yeah - I now have to throw myself at the mercy of my beta reader to read through it before bolting it onto the other 36,000 odd words. Again, no typos - the story is really *that* long!
* * *
In happier news - as I am sure *everyone* knows right now: Doctor Who returns on Easter Saturday/30th March.
Which is right and good because just like Christmas brings a new episode - Easter brings the new series. Now, the next question is, will there be a mass gathering of fans to watch the new episode in London this year?!
* * *
I really will get around to posting about the films I'm looking forward to this year, at some point. When I do - chances are, this one will be on the list - Teaser Poster for Trance, the new film by Danny Boyle and it's due out at the end of March too!

I shall be very disapoint! - Yes, it's the 'prequel' to the DW Christmas episode!
( small spoilers below. I think I need to do some research... )

And yes, the great
mini_nanowrimo trudge continues!

I'm going to second Den Of Geek's warning here... Don't watch this in a public place, *especially* if you had an 'allergic' reaction to The Angels Take Manhattan. I didn't but I did to this.
* * *
The less said about today's teaching sessions, the better. Six classes, seven flouncers, four v. supportive colleagues (and counting), two students defending me and one very sore voice.
Yeah, it's been a hell of a day. Bring on the weekend and the family DRAHMAZ (It's Shinzon's birthday today, there will be picspam) and his party is at ours on Sunday. Perhaps it will be okay...

As many of you will now know, Michael O'Hare passed on Friday. I just want to put the following up as tribute:
* * *
In other news - I'm writing - but the end of the story keeps running away from me. I'm also watching as many movies as I can as well. I can recommend Looper to one and all. It's not perfect but it's quite something.
* * *
On the matter of Doctor Who (knew there was something else I wanted to speak about!) it was good. This season hasn't lit a fire under me, I would think it fair to say that since The Doctor's Wife, I haven't really been as invested as I have been in the past. Will have to see what the second half of the season brings.
* * *
Okay - that's me. I have to find somewhere to sit and bash out some more of this gargantuan story. Consider this fair warning - there will be whining!

O hai! Internets! How are you all?. Me? Went away for a few days for my birthday - to Paris (France) and had a lovely time eating food that involved chocolate and embarrassing myself with my godawful French. Thankfully the French speak superb English - which just makes matters worse. They also subtitle 'Hollywood' films - which is v.cool.
I spent the actual day of my birthday - last Monday at Disneyland Paris. Because. Also, nothing says 'birthday' like going on All The Rollercoasters and laughing hysterically*. Whether not wearing my glasses helped, (or more correctly - didn't) is a matter of debate. I also took more photos than strictly necessary - part of the course;)
*yes, I scared people. I may be small, female, English/Irish but I have a laugh like The Predator.
* * *
I would have come back online a couple of days ago but... I fell ill. You don't need the details but from what I can tell it was (possibly) the Norovirus - think the 'flu with vomiting and diarrhoea and you're reasonably close. Felt like I'd been run over by a *bus*. All thanks to the much beloved nephew who had given it to his mum and then to the rest of his family over the weekend.
Family - you have to love them;)
* * *
Obviously *everyone* knows that the new Doctor Who Companion has been announced - SPOILERS sweetie. The only thing I have to say on the matter is that I am on the fence.
At first blush, zie seems more of the same. As much as I had beef with RTD's tenure (mostly towards the end) - at least there was *some* variation with regards to companion. Hell, we even had guys as companions. Even so, I feel that I will not be alone on said fence...

New icon - and appropriate too!

Total for the day - 211 words.
Currently writing a story that has no (real) idea what it wants to be - other than Raven-centric. Who is awesome
( Thought on Christmas Doctor Who Episode Clip. Very short )
And so to bed - I have work tomorrow - Roll on Tuesday!

Following on from the whole Delicious Debacle... much of what I use it for (as a notice board of shiny things and things I *might* find useful) seems to be restored.
Even so. Pinboard seems to be a slightly better option. Especially when they say things that inspired the above subject heading. Which was, and I am being *brutally* honest here, the third thing I thought of.
Don't ask what #1 and #2 were.'Where can I find such a thing?, sort of counts! All I can say, is that someone groks. Or at least, they certainly grok Monsta Monsta Beckii
* * *
...And in other news...
Not ded. Not an auntie yet. Enjoyed Doctor Who and enjoyed the company even more (although whoever had the good idea to close down the Northern Line as well as the Circle needs to be Gibbs!slapped). Work is batpoopoo insane and there are not enough hours in the week to spend in a darkened cinema. Or reading. Or writing. Seeing that
mini_nanowrimo is back open for business - this could get messy...
So, in short? Same Stuff - Different Week
