Yes, I'm as surprised as you are!

To help get over the shock - Signal Boost: Channel 4 (in the UK) have purchased Agents Of SHIELD. Not much is known right now but this is a Good Thing and above all... COULSON LIVES!

* * *

Every year, London Zoo weighs it's animals - here - have photos. My favourite has to be Tammy the Anteater #TeamBringIt.

And at the other end of the spectrum - James Cameron says that it's 'inevitable' that all entertainment will be in 3D ahahahaha! no.

* * *

Next entry into the annals of 'Things I have looked up for Fan Fic' - Bulldogs, The Aussie Air Force, advice for dogs flying on planes. Yes, they are all related.

As is this -

The Pacific Rim theme played on Chinese instruments - well worth a listen!

On the same (ish!) subject.... I should have fic to share soon! Torchwood fic! Or to be more precise *crossover*. It's written and it's gone to beta, so with luck... I might actually have (gosh, shock HORROR) proper content!

* * *

I've downloaded the first episode of Welcome To Night Vale. Will report back when I've listened to it.

* * *

So... how are you guys?
beckymonster: Becky icon (general_cat ZOMG!!)
Surprised kitty is surprised by two posts in three days. Can't say as I blame it;)

* * *

I have a *thing* that needs looking over. Mainly for spelling & grammar; but if you've seen both Torchwood and Zero Dark Thirty a) congratulations on having such eclectic taste! and b) you'll get the gist!

Leave a comment etc.

* * *

In other news, I think I should start up a list entitled 'Things I Have Researched In The Name of FanFic'.
In the last couple of days, it would include:
- The calendar for the year 2025
- The BBC World Service and how they announce the News
- Air Force One
- English Bulldogs
- Austrailian Meat Pies might also make the cut but I have that information from when I was doing research on an Inception fic from way back when. The perils of being a librarian - you remember *everything* and if you don't... you have to look it up.

* * *

To be filed under 'Stuff that makes me spitting mad':

The (London) Guardian - 'David Miranda, schedule 7 and the danger that all reporters now face' - the basics of the story are that the partner of the Guardian journo, who broke the Snowden case, a Brazilian citizen, was held at Heathrow for nine hours, under 'terrorism' laws but not charged.

The UK has many things going for it - freedom of speech enshrined by law ain't one of them as this case shows. 'Horrified' springs to mind.

Also - LJ is borking my coding - Whiskey Tango Foxtrot! EDIT - as we say at work... there is an issue between the keyboard and the chair! ooops...

And now for 'Stuff that makes me very happy'

Which would be links to Neil Gaiman speaking about him writing another Doctor Who episode; Travis Beacham (writer of Pacific Rim) speaking about his joy at what his little creation has wrought and the comment that the film is edging over the 400 million mark regarding Box Office takings - which is a hell of a chunk of change and may signal a sequel. May please, O great goddess of geeks! Carry on.

If anyone sees any 'Hot Dads From Pacific Rim' icons, send 'em my way... Yeah, I think the 'new fandom klaxon' went off *weeks* ago and I didn't notice it... ahem!

And on that note - I shall leave y'all in peace!

Item of Note
BBC Press Office - Torchwood: Miracle Day starts on BBC One on Thursday 14th July @ 9pm It airs in the US on 8/7 (or 7/8) Needless to say - spoil and diaf.

Trailers of Interest

Teaser trailer for Pixar's next film, Brave and it looks amazing already. Is it 2012 yet?

Still on the subject of 'Is It 2012 yet?' Aragorn and Magneto in A Dangerous Method - the new film by David Cronenberg (I'd say NSFW as I got caught out by a certain scene at work no less! *facepalm*)

I haven't seen much of his work but I thoroughly enjoyed A History of Violence, so I may have to give this a look see. I *will* try to keep the objectifying of Michael Fassbender to a minimum, even though such a thing has been clinically proven to stop me from'moidering' certain undesirables at the cinema. Long story. Also, Sir Ian McKellen graces the cover of this month's Empire Magazine. Haven't read the full article yet - it's stashed in my handbag for lunchtime perusal but... again, is it 2012 yet?!

I was going to point to a trailer for the new film version of Jane Eyre (as well as the one for the new version of 'Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy but Live Journal is being p*ssy.

Will try again, later! Needless to say, I was sighing like a Regency heroine by the end of the Jane Eyre trailer (a combo of one of my all time favourite books and the Future!Mr Beckymonster playing Rochester...)

ETA - All hail t'internet (and fandom!) for coming through...

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy stars more British Actors than you can shake a stick at and looks rather promising. And this is speaking as someone who has neither read the book or seen the much vaunted BBC serial...

So - in other words - still here, still batsh*t insane. How are you guys?

Before I begin - a note to self... leaving t'internet to itself for three days isn't a good idea. Two words - 'Skip 300'.

So - yes, as mentioned previously, those lovely lovely people at the BFI managed to arrange a (public) preview of the first episode of the new series of Torchwood.
And yes, while I *still* have issues about CoE, that was two years ago and I have managed (mostly!) to make peace with them and move on. I also have a bridge to sell you, if you're interested.

So - with that caveat out of the way - what did I think? Given that the BFI stressed (quite considerably!) that they were happy for people to blog about what they saw, they stressed that if anyone spoils (to the extent that was kicked up over the season opener which wasn't a BFI showing) then no more lovely previews.
Which would be a very bad thing as I do enjoy them a hell of a lot because - cinematic experience, excellent conversation with like-minded, intelligent fanpersons (the usual suspects, [livejournal.com profile] torn_eledhwen, [livejournal.com profile] vayshti and drinks! What more can a monster ask for? Apart from having to rush off for another screening thanks to the Tube Strikes *shakes tiny fist of rage at RMT*

So with that in mind - even though I am going to do my damndest NOT to spoil *anything* - it's cut teim!

Torchwood: Miracle Day (1/10) )

If you want more details and are happy to be 'spoiled' for detail - PM me with what you want to know and what level of detail you want. If I can remember, I'll try to oblige.

Torchwood: Miracle Day Preview @ BFI on 20/6

Guess who has tickets? That's right - [livejournal.com profile] torn_eledhwen and I.

So, why mention it? So that those of you on my flist who may or may not be interested have fair warning. After all, I wasn't the only one left a tad fragile after CoE. Yes, I'm going to be a canary for the good of my flist. Because I'm nice a glutton for punishment like that.

I'll keep y'all posted!

‘Filmography’ for movies and other spoilery details mentioned in the story )

This story contains a *boatload* of firsts for me. 1st Big Bang fic. 1st story to break 13k - let alone 20k. 1st Torchwood story (and given my current antipathy towards S4 - unfortunately my *last* too). You get the picture?

I'd like to thank the mods of [livejournal.com profile] tw_bigbang for giving me this oppurtunity to prove to myself that yes, I [livejournal.com profile] becky_monster can push myself to write 15,000 words on one story. The shock may wear off before 2015 but then again...;)

I'd also like to thank (again!) [livejournal.com profile] torn_eledhwen for selflessly volunteering to beta this behemoth. To [livejournal.com profile] wethepainted for getting into my head and drawing the pictures and the people I saw there.

I'd also like to thank Christopher Nolan for getting me past (and utterly derailing me at) the 15,000 words point.
Also, I'd like to thank the very nice soul who put on the In The Shadow Of The Sun talk and showing of the film Sunshine at the British Film Institute. Great minds think alike!

For what it's worth, I've seen comments about how fandom tends to write one thing and 'want' another thing. Well, all I can say is - if you want it WRITE IT. I did. And hopefully you've enjoyed it. There is room for all in fandom.

And now if you'll excuse me - I have to collapse in a big heap and go 'molest' (fic wise!) a physicist or two!
