If you can read this, it's because I have you as a friend. There is a *damn* good reason for this, which I hope will become abundantly clear.

So - yes, seven years ago today, I started this blog. Sometimes it seems like seven minutes, other times it seems like seventy years;) Even so, I just want to make a note of this achievement and look back (and look forwards) at the year gone by.

One of the big events of the year gone by was the arrival the Shinzon Monster AKA my nephew. He's six months old tomorrow and he's... well... have a look for yourself:

Photobucket

I don't know if you can see it but his onesie says 'Hungry Monster' - he's also a very *chatty* monster as well. It's all 'babble' at the moment (or rather my babel fish cannot translate 'baby') but I get the impression that he's inherited the Monster ability to talk. As well as the desire to stand up rather than sit up... Heavens only knows what he's going to be like when he gets to the year mark!

Since this is not Facebook - Baby In A Sink )

I have survived my appraisal at work. Which is cause for celebration in itself! Boss commented that, despite the macro-shenannigans (Academia - you has to love it!), my list of things that went well/happy with, was four times longer than the ones I wasn't happy with.

*

I haven't changed much at all in 20 years. So much so that someone I went to school with spotted me walking down the street at lunch and pounced (metaphorically!) on me when I ventured into zie's store for more info about something. Also? I do *not* look like a poodle

*

This post - (very picture heavy but hot *daymn!*) and also the fact that if I stop faffing about! I will reach 100% spent on the 'troublesome' work budgie. So...

*

How about you guys?

Which explains why I haven't been posting around these 'ere parts for a while. The most 'interesting' things (that do *not* involve movies) I have been doing recently have been trying out a new contact lens make (verdict - owowowow) and buying books (for myself).

Not that this is incentive for anyone or anything to make my life 'interesting' by any means. I like *boring*. It's just that it doesn't make for good blogging!

***

On the subject of books - whomever has been raving about The Hunger Games... thank you. I read the first book in about four days. Which is damn good going. The other two are now on order from Amazon.

For those of you considering reading these - I'd recommend the first one certainly. And no one spoil me, please.

***

On the subject of books - I'm currently reading Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovich. I'm two chapters in and... I think the best way I can describe it is one part Hot Fuzz (alas minus the homoeroticism) and three parts The Dresden Files.

I fear that I may be reaching for my next book before too long - which is a good thing. Will report back when I finish it.

***

Changing the subject to music for a moment - does anyone have a *legal* copy of The Black Hole soundtrack that can be loaded onto a computer? It's asking for a lot, I know, as the only copy I can find is on US iTunes (which, being from the UK, is as much use as a chocolate fireguard!) but I thought I'd ask.

On a similar note - Pictures of the packaging for the 'Tron: Legacy' Blu-ray/DVD. WANT!

***

Time for a random photo snurched from Twitter (three good guesses *who* one of the subjects is...) The Old and New faces of TV astronomy.

Also - related to the above (especially if you think like *me*) The captions say these are photos from CERN - I'd say the Grid from 'Tron' meself!

***

Related to the above (again!) - Wonders Of The Universe starts on Sunday 6th March at 9pm. Which means that it's on the same time as Being Human for two episodes. Thank the Flying Spagetti Monster for BBC iPlayer and DVRs! Also, if anyone can choose what to watch and what to tape from those two - congratulations! you are a better person than me. Trufax.

***

*Still* on the subject of telly (paging [livejournal.com profile] nialla42!)- Hawaii Five O (2010) - yay or nay?. It, too, is on at 9pm, Sunday on Sky One, so is it one to have a looky-loo (most likely through catch up services - it's the BAFTAS next week. Or rather Inception plays the bridesmaid *again*) or no?

Mr Nicolas and Mrs Mikaela Seddon - aka Mr Nicolas and Mrs Mikaela Monster!

WARNING - CONTAINS MONSTERS! (Not to mention - dial-up *un*friendly pictures! )

So - yes, that's that over and done with. After over 30 years, I now has a brother. Weird!

DAY SIX - WHATEVER TICKLES YOUR FANCY

I've been thinking about holidays recently; one of the possibles for 2010 is a road trip. One of the cities I'm thinking of visiting is one that has more than played it's part in Doctor Who. That city is, of course...

A very succinct and truthful review by [livejournal.com profile] torn_eledhwen

A very verbose, fangrrly and utterly subjective review by me )

The night ended with me traversing London with a *huge* grin on my face and singing 'I am what I am' at the top of my voice as I walked back to my car... at about ten past midnight.

My thanks go to [livejournal.com profile] torn_eledhwen for being excellent company and generally awesome (we WILL do something like this again, soon!) and to the Universe for giving me a day like yesterday.

One final thing - GINORMOUS and amazing picspam for the London run of 'La Cage Aux Folles' - featuring various casts - spoilers for the show by [livejournal.com profile] bethan_b_bad.

Seen all over the shop
1. Stop talking about politics, just for a few minutes.
2. Post a reasonably-sized picture in your LJ, NOT under a cut tag, of something pleasant, such as an adorable kitten, or a fluffy white cloud, or a bottle of booze. Something that isn't political.
3. Include these instructions, and share the love.

There is a boat yard at the end of my road - the boat is actually specific to my area of the country. They're something to see in full sail.

PA180186
And now for something slightly more recognisable. The London skyline as seen from Waterloo Bridge. The sun was behind me when I took the photo but I love the shadows and the colours.

Dotted around the World Famous Odeon Cinema in Liecester Square can be found bronze plaques like this. Not exactly the Hollywood Walk of Fame but hey! I took this one as there are a number of people on my flist, who (you know who you are!) who, quite rightly, deem Mr Fry to be a National Treasure.

Yes, that *is* a library!,Blossom trees, and again with the Man in the Hat! )

Next week, I hope to be back to normal... or whatever *passes* as normal around here;)

May I take this moment to apologise for being completely boring this week? I didn't do much this weekend and therefore have no interesting photos to show for it. I will do my best to make this up as I'm off to London next Saturday.

The building next to mine at work. I love the striping on the windows! It serves no other purpose other than to look pretty;)

P2110123
The cathederal from last week again and look! Spring - it's springing!! Yes, this makes me ridiculously happy - am not a great fan of winter I must say!
