[livejournal.com profile] mini_nanowrimo total for the day - 1263 words. Yes, it's supposed to be 100 words a day but there *will* be days when I'll just scrape across that barrier... Just not today!

Moved some of my icons over to my dreamwidth account. I'm Beckymonster over there. Not that I'm planning to move from here anytime soon; it's just a back up of this account at present. No 'original' content. Make your own jokes about what you see here;)
I must be one of the only people on LJ that's relatively okay with the new friends 'feed'. I prefer black text on a white background, the neverending scroll doesn't break my computer... Would prefer that some things are left well alone but not my call to make.

Even so - the whole 'no more paid accounts' hoohaa did peturb me but I'll wait and see on that matter. Said it before, say it again.... I leave when they carry me out!

I have an idea for my [livejournal.com profile] secret_mutant story. I want to do some research first but I think it's a goer. Will try to get the first draft done once I've handed in the 'requisite' amount for [livejournal.com profile] xmenbigbang. It won't be finished but at least it will be over the 80% mark!

Add in getting a number of boring but necessary errands and it's been a productive day.

Mainly because it's a Sunday and my brain is having enough trouble coping with plotting out the damn story to finesse out such a search query. Also proves 'Not Ded' too.

In the US - would a civil marriage be regarded as legal and binding in say Nevada as it would be in New York State? Meaning if two people were married in Nevada, would that marriage stand in NY?

This is (obviously!) for a fic - I can 'tap dance' around the elephant in the room as well - although Google tells me that steps are being taken.

Help?

Which it is - yes, I came that close to binning over 2,000 words of my [livejournal.com profile] secret_mutant story again. Also? the [livejournal.com profile] yuletide mantra of 'Optional Details Are Optional' should apply to all the damn ficathons!

In happier news - Written? Kitten! is hewn from 100% *awesome*

*

If you have been having issues with LJ - they are aware of it

*

New Promo images from John Carter (of Mars). This is being directed by Andrew Wall.E Stanton. Which, trust me, is more than reason enough to watch this film. Having read the (first) book, I am glad to see this guy made the cut. Zie is awesome.

*

When the 'official' announcements were made regarding Bond 23 aka Skyfall, the characters that some of the actors would be playing were not noted. Even so, it was teased that these would be known to people who had read the books. In that vein, Ben Whishaw will be 'Q'. If he says *that* line, made famous by the late, great Desmond Llewellyn, I will be a very happy monster indeed.

*

20 of the Muppets greatest hits. Let's not discuss how much I envy everyone who has gotten to see this so far. February is too damn far away. < /sulk>

*

I've only seen THREE movies this month. Which by my standards is appalling But I have finally met my nephew - warning: cute baby. So, there is balance (and also Wednesday).

Also, I have written over 100 words every day and blogged every day. The new 'high-speed' (i.e. the damn thing goes and I can watch trailers in almost real-time) t'internet may not approve but hey!;) Need to keep going until, yes, you've guessed it... WEDNESDAY!

In other RL news - I have nearly all my Christmas presents 'sorted' bar one. And by 'sorted', I mean, I either have purchased them/know what to buy them and will purchase as soon as funds/time become available. This is nearly unheard of.

Next thing you know, I will be posting my 'manoeuvres' for December/January and by manoeuvres I mean what I am going to see at the BFI and when. Consider that a warning;)

So, beloved flist - Any good news to share?

1. Reply to this post with "excalibur", and I will pick five of your icons.

Icon Key Words - movies_xmfc_slash_ready - icon by [livejournal.com profile] i_rise_inside

Okay - the really short version? X-Men: First Class was pretty much the movie of the summer for me. I was hoping that it would be good. I just wasn't expecting to be utterly *bowled* over by it. And I sure as heck wasn't expecting to fall hopelessly (again!) for the actors who played my favourite characters - Professor Charles Xavier and Erik 'Magneto' Lensherr.

I have plot bunnies bouncing around me - so many of the damn buggers - but I just need time and desire to write. Both are a bit thin on the ground - but I am hopeful (or else I will make them - somehow!). Still, this image makes me happy as it reminds me not just of a superb film but of the 'Aren't-Movies-Kewl?!' trailer that was shown before every damn film I saw for at least three months over summer.

It involved clips from most films that were showing over the summer - for XM:FC - the dialogue was simply:

XAVIER - Are you ready for this?
LENSHERR - Let's find out.

Icon Key Words - DW_stargate - icon by [livejournal.com profile] hobbit_hunter

If there is one thing I love about icons, it's when they can mash up two (or more) fandoms at once. Not only does it mean that they can work double shift but there's usually a good joke in there too.

See above for what I mean;) It's one of my *oldest* icons and it's still one that makes me smile everytime I see it. It's the grin that does it. Nine had what I call a 'sunshine through clouds' grin. Doesn't happen very often, is very quick but when it does... all the more beautiful for it.

Oh 'Verse, I still *miss* Nine

Icon Key Words - Books Hobbes Back - icon by [livejournal.com profile] fooish_icons

Now this is a matter of interpretation. In context, I am sure this image is from a sequence of Hobbes preparing to do one of his legendary 'attacks' on Calvin. If you've seen them - they are usually some of the funniest strips that Watterson did for C&H.

For me, this has a different meaning. It's my 'Furious Monster is FURIOUS' icon. So there will be blood, swears and general bad behaviour. I don't use it very often but when I do... consider it your five second warning.

Icon Key Words - DW_Fandom two hearts - icon by [livejournal.com profile] nostalgia_lj

Like the above, this icon has a very definite purpose. Whereas that one expresses anger - this one expresses... well, heartbreak. Especially those moments when my heart is in pieces on the floor (usually over a film or a TV show - *coughTorchwood:Children Of Earth Day Fourcough*) and there is nothing I can do about it other than sob my guts up and rant about it on LJ.

Needless to say that I haven't used it for a little while - I'm glad to say;)

Icon Key Words - books_hhgttg_ohnoes! - icon by... I *still* don't know!

Saving the best for last - this is one of my all time favourite icons. It's been my default more times than strictly necessary. If you know Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy, you know the scene - the bowl of petunias kill me everytime.

"Oh no, not again."

So - there you go! Queries, questions, general heckling?

Is there a way to 'automate' journal back-ups between here and Dreamwidth ala 'Time Machine' for Mac - which I love and adore!

Or a way of just moving over the few (okay - twenty odd!) entries I've made since the last back up?

Not that I'm thinking of moving but... there are reports that the DDOS from last week was by the same chaps as the April one and this time they threw 'wrath of God' type firepower at LJ.

Said it before - say it again. I leave here when the KGB drag my sorry arse out.

In happier news - I am on maneuvers. Currently in the city that features in one of my favourite films of this year. And will be going to the city that features in the writings of one of my favourite authors before the end of the week too. So, in other words, if I take forever to get back to you like that's any different from usual?!, you know why!

Given the *latest* LJ kerfuffle, I've toggled the IP logging to 'anon' only. Which given that nearly there are no anons on my lj - doesn't make much sense but makes me happy.

In short - staying here. They drag me out when the world ends.

*

If anyone wants to know where to find me (albeit in Lurker McLurkerson mode...) try over here or over here.

Don't mind me, just wallowing in the fact that a) it was on a silver platter and b) the pairing I have been secretly fond of since before the first damn movie is totes frickin CANON even though the baby!versions are amazingly pretty - they will never be as gorgeous as they will be when they get older oh and unlike the last film I fell hopelessly in love with *cough*Inception*cough* - there is a *lot* of fic about said pairing - which makes me very gleeful.

Full review at some point, but I am so pulling out the first two for a re-watch!

*

T'internet at home is borked (again!) so guess I'm going to be spending more time than necessary where I don't need to be and in the cinema (see note above)

*

So, that's me - how are you guys?

1067 posts and a *hell* of a lot of nonsense about films and other gubbins... Here's to year seven;) So in that vein....

New X-Men: First Class trailer.

(Am I the only one who is thinking that the slash is going to go kaBOOM on this? not that it hasn't been there from the first film....

And now for two more embeds that... well, it's *my* anniversary and I want them here because they are beautiful and sum up the last year for me...

The Films of Danny Boyle

The Films of Christopher Nolan (Nolanography)

Most of all, I want to say THANK YOU to everyone reading this post. You make this place what it is and without yous guys... I wouldn't have lasted six weeks... let alone this far...

So, thank you... and I'll try to be a little less 'frequent' in my posting from now on... Three posts in three days?! o_O

So... everyone knows that that 'certain' elements of Russian society are trying to silence LJ - the one free channel of expression available to many in that country?

Needless if there is one thing that *royally* p*sses me off (other than talking in cinemas while the movie is playing and bad customer service) it's censorship.

So - yes, I'll be here until the KGB drag my sorry arse out.

If the worst does come to the worst - I'm also over at Dreamwidth as beckymonster (yes, I lost the underscore - I feel so nekkid without it:( ). There isn't much to see but I am currently backing this journal up over there.

It's taking a while because as of Monday I've been here SIX FRAKKING YEARS! (o_O) and as you can well imagine, I don't want to lose all of that. Okay - not all of it... The emo whining can go - the rest can stay;)

I can also be found on twitter as well - as @becky_monster. I did have another twitter account but that's in my 'real' name and shall not be mentioned here. The Fannish and the Real stay as far apart as humanely possible, better for all that way.

- I have lost my voice. There is a reward for anyone who finds it. Preferably before Induction Hell Week starts next week.

- Reason for losing my voice? Meeting with geeky friends for The Andy's Legendary Birthday Pub Crawl and talking non-stop for about five hours... and then going to my sister's Hen/Batchelorette party.
Things I learned: I can't make cocktails to save my *life*, everyone gets confused as to which sibling is which (I have three sisters), that I have crazy/awesome friends and I can be sociable with people I don't really know! Also, hot guys in 1940's Air Force Uniforms beat out strippers in US Navy whites any day.

- For those of you in need of a good laugh/something to go 'awww' over: definition of 'adorkable' - (Prof) Brian Cox as a teenager

I'm *reasonably* sure that everyone who will read this will understand my pov but - for the record:

ON NO ACCOUNT does [livejournal.com profile] becky_monster of Livejournal go *anywhere* near Rebecca (name redacted) of Facebook.

I've said this before and I'll say it again. Becky_Monster is for squee, Doctor Who, science fiction, movies, tv, writing, 'inappropriate' crushes on guys you've never heard of, flailing and other assorted monster-related insanity.

Rebecca *name redacted) on Facebook is... well, it's a construct created for work purposes more than anything else. Hell, I *presented* a paper on why my work should use Facebook as a way of communicating with our users this afternoon.

Killer timing? I *has* it - for possibly the first and only time in my *life*!

I'm moving forward with that paper (once colleages at another site see it) but... I 'present' a very *different* face there to what I present here. Insofar as I can see - movie reviews as status updates is the way to go;).

This is not just to protect my privacy but also to to be 'professional'. Most of you know what I do - I make no effort to hide what I do. Hell, I know of at least three other people on my flist who followed the same calling as me - with others who'd like to do it too.

Even so, insofar as the outside world is concerned, fandom is in a grey area where copyright is concerned. As part of what I am/do, I am expected to uphold copyright holders rights. Y'all are intelligent - you can do the math;)

My way of getting around this - they don't ask; I don't tell. Hence the separation of Church and State the two identities.

All I ask is that if you're reading this - respect me and yourself and keep anything you say or I say on this journal galaxies away from Twitter or Facebook! If you don't, then defriend yourself right now - save me the damn trouble!
