Yes, I'm as surprised as you are!

To help get over the shock - Signal Boost: Channel 4 (in the UK) have purchased Agents Of SHIELD. Not much is known right now but this is a Good Thing and above all... COULSON LIVES!

* * *

Every year, London Zoo weighs it's animals - here - have photos. My favourite has to be Tammy the Anteater #TeamBringIt.

And at the other end of the spectrum - James Cameron says that it's 'inevitable' that all entertainment will be in 3D ahahahaha! no.

* * *

Next entry into the annals of 'Things I have looked up for Fan Fic' - Bulldogs, The Aussie Air Force, advice for dogs flying on planes. Yes, they are all related.

As is this -

The Pacific Rim theme played on Chinese instruments - well worth a listen!

On the same (ish!) subject.... I should have fic to share soon! Torchwood fic! Or to be more precise *crossover*. It's written and it's gone to beta, so with luck... I might actually have (gosh, shock HORROR) proper content!

* * *

I've downloaded the first episode of Welcome To Night Vale. Will report back when I've listened to it.

So... how are you guys?

So, it's Thanksgiving in the US today... and usually, even though I'm British, I would write a list of things I'm thankful for. As you can see from the above - it's become a bit of a tradition. This is along the same lines but not quite.

Twenty years ago, today, Freddie Mercury of Queen, passed away from AIDS related pneumonia. So this year, along with everything else, I am thankful for Freddie, for Queen and their music. He left far too bloody soon.

And of course, there is this:

We shall never see the like of him again.

I ain't ded (but home internet is doing a good impression of a Norwegian Blue), work is driving me more crazy than usual (yes, it *is* that bad) but there is also this:

Dr Brian May (CBE, Astrophysist and guitarist of 'some' repute) talking about his dear friend Freddie

I read an article that wondered what Freddie would have been doing if he hadn't passed away, twenty years ago in November it only seems like a few years ago..... One thing I am *sure* he would have been doing... showing the pretenders and whippersnappers - how it is really done.

And I would be in the audience singing my heart out (along with quite a few others, I am sure). Many happy returns Freddie. You were truly one of a kind.

Dear Universe - There is a trailer for Wonders Of The Universe out in the 'wild'. It features music from Sunshine (I am assuming it's 'Sunshine' (Adagio in D)), which as we both know is one blinding bit of music.

Add in the loveliness known as Professor Brian Cox (who has stated that he loves that bit of music) and... *flutters eyelashes*... please?! Can I see this? You Tube is coming up with nothing and.... please help a monster out?

Oh and the new series starts on 9th March. If I haven't already mentioned that a 1,000 times!

*

While you're at it, Universe, can you please stop it with the natural disasters in the Southern Hemisphere? I think we can all agree that Christchurch is the last straw... My thoughts and prayers go to those affected.

*

I should be more Monster Grata around here - and by that I mean 'Post Stuff That Aren't Movie Reviews!' (although - take it from me, when I say GO SEE PAUL FOR IT IS AWESOME!) but there isn't *that* much to discuss.

Some bits of my life are toodling along reasonably well (insofar as I can say that they are without tempting fate) and others I don't really want to discuss as I'd rather have something 'positive' and tangible to discuss - which is going to be a while off. Others are... PITAs and will remain so.

And this? Is why I stick to the movie reviews!

Which explains why I haven't been posting around these 'ere parts for a while. The most 'interesting' things (that do *not* involve movies) I have been doing recently have been trying out a new contact lens make (verdict - owowowow) and buying books (for myself).

Not that this is incentive for anyone or anything to make my life 'interesting' by any means. I like *boring*. It's just that it doesn't make for good blogging!

***

On the subject of books - whomever has been raving about The Hunger Games... thank you. I read the first book in about four days. Which is damn good going. The other two are now on order from Amazon.

For those of you considering reading these - I'd recommend the first one certainly. And no one spoil me, please.

***

On the subject of books - I'm currently reading Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovich. I'm two chapters in and... I think the best way I can describe it is one part Hot Fuzz (alas minus the homoeroticism) and three parts The Dresden Files.

I fear that I may be reaching for my next book before too long - which is a good thing. Will report back when I finish it.

***

Changing the subject to music for a moment - does anyone have a *legal* copy of The Black Hole soundtrack that can be loaded onto a computer? It's asking for a lot, I know, as the only copy I can find is on US iTunes (which, being from the UK, is as much use as a chocolate fireguard!) but I thought I'd ask.

On a similar note - Pictures of the packaging for the 'Tron: Legacy' Blu-ray/DVD. WANT!

***

Time for a random photo snurched from Twitter (three good guesses *who* one of the subjects is...) The Old and New faces of TV astronomy.

Also - related to the above (especially if you think like *me*) The captions say these are photos from CERN - I'd say the Grid from 'Tron' meself!

***

Related to the above (again!) - Wonders Of The Universe starts on Sunday 6th March at 9pm. Which means that it's on the same time as Being Human for two episodes. Thank the Flying Spagetti Monster for BBC iPlayer and DVRs! Also, if anyone can choose what to watch and what to tape from those two - congratulations! you are a better person than me. Trufax.

***

*Still* on the subject of telly (paging [livejournal.com profile] nialla42!)- Hawaii Five O (2010) - yay or nay?. It, too, is on at 9pm, Sunday on Sky One, so is it one to have a looky-loo (most likely through catch up services - it's the BAFTAS next week. Or rather Inception plays the bridesmaid *again*) or no?

THANK YOU to [livejournal.com profile] we_reflamingos for my purple bears! They are very pretty... I shall have to find some pictures for Prof Brian but you might want to look over here for the lovely Cillian

19 years ago today, Freddie Mercury passed away and one of the greatest voices in music was silenced. Much missed but unforgettable.

A Black Swan music video highlighting the music used in the film. Yes, that's Clint Mansell reworking Tchaikovsky - and this is me going 'gimme!' It opens in the US next week and in the UK, it opens in late January (grumblegrumlegrumble!)

Now for something that will be released a bit *quicker*:

As many will know, Daft Punk are doing the soundtrack for Tron Legacy, which opens middle of next month. I had a listen and although it's only part of the story (as the film doesn't come out until 17/12) it's worth a listen and I get the impression that I may be making a beeline from the cinema to the record store for this one;)

I can't promise what the next post will involve... but I shall do my best to ensure that it's You Tube embed free;)

New icon by [livejournal.com profile] icons_of_isis. Subject line is a quote from the quite wonderful Despicable Me which I saw on Friday night.

The only thing they have in common? (bar being movies) - Loved both of them. Although I think that Despicable Me has more quotes that will enter my lexicon ('It's so fluffy!' being one) and it had female characters who talked to each other about stuff.

Although... while the Minons are cute - Cillian Murphy (and Chris Evans and Hiroyuki Sadana) are just beautiful. Not to mention, scientifically more accurate;) So - swings and roundabouts!

***

On a tangent - Empire article on rock (and pop) musicians creating movie musical scores featuring such luminaries as Daft Punk, Pop Will Eat Itself (Clint Mansell) and Underworld.

The soundtracks nominated for the latter two I can attest to being utterly amazing (Moon and Sunshine). Although Mansell's score for Black Swan may trump even his work on Moon as he's 'collaborating' with some guy called Tchaikovsky...

***

Teaser Trailer for the film Paul Starring Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Sigourney Weaver (and plenty of other folks but those? Are The Important Ones!)

One word comes to mind. Other than 'oooOOOOOooo!'. Three good guesses;)

It was the BBC Doctor Who Prom. The orchestra were playing 'Vale Deceum' (Farewell Ten) and some evil b@rstard helpful soul decided that the *perfect* images to accompany this (beautiful) music would be the regenerations of the 9th and 10th Doctor.

Have I mentioned that I am really crap at dealing with regenerations? Yes? How many times?! Really?

It might be five years since Nine but watching *that* scene, still cuts to the bone. As for Ten... it was the first time I've seen the regeneration since New Year and...

It was not pretty. Thankfully [livejournal.com profile] torn_eledhwen is utterly *awesome*, offered a hankie and put up with my foolishness!

DAY TWENTY THREE - A WHO-RELATED YOU TUBE VIDEO

This? Is hilarious. Found via Sci-Fi Wire:

Thing Two

Scientists at CERN are using sound to find/track the Higgs Boson (if it even exists!) Either that or the BBC Radiophonic Workshop are back in business!

Seriously now - is there some sort of correlation between physics and music? Or am I seeing patterns that aren't there?

DAY SEVEN - YOUR FAVOURITE PIECE OF MUSIC

Given that this is my journal - my rules apply. And one of those rules is that I break the rules when I feel I need to. And I need to right now. So I am going to pick a couple of peices. for starters...

From Seasons 1 & 2 - THE LONE DALEK

I say 'seasons 1 & 2' as it was first heard in the episode 'Dalek' but reached full 'voice' (if you will) in 'Doomsday'. It's one of the most beautiful and emotional peices that I think Murray Gold has written for the series. I personally adore it.
