Library Patron: I'm looking for some journals on Homeostasis.

Me: Goes into a spiel about how journals are usually about more general subjects - like Nursing and Midwifery.  
What do you need it for sir?

LP: how temperature changes affect it..

Me: Ah, sounds like you need some basic information, shall we try an Encylopaedia?  Goes over to shelf, pulls down vol 6 of Encylopaedia Britannica.  Pulls up 'homeostasis'.

LP: How do I go about joining the British Library - they'll have journals on homeostasis.  

Me does damndest not to laugh in patron's face.

Me: I'm sorry sir, but you'd only be allowed in if you had a definite, provable research need...  and you'd have to be signed off by one of your subject team, of which I am a part.

LP goes away mollified by the encyclopaedia article.

Me goes into office and whimpers.
