Full disclosure time: I only went to see this because Sister Unit #4 wanted to go see it as a Birthday treat. Being the good big sister that I am (I hope!) I dutifully ponied up the cash for the tickets.
I have this film on DVD - it's possibly the only Christmas film (with the exception of It's A Wonderful Life) which is actually worth the celluloid it's on.
It's Christmassy without being mawkish or overly sentimental. The humour is quite dark but it's set off by the excellent stop-motion animation. Seeing as the film is now over ten years old ('fraid to say;)) it wears it's age lightly. I put this down to the animation and the great music - as provided by long term Burton collaborator, Danny Elfman.
The 3-D aspect wasn't as apparent as it was with Superman Returns but the 3-D elements there were specifically filmed that way - this has had it added as an after thought. Even so, the glasses this time around were a lot less dorky (think National Health glasses for those of you old enough to remember those or the ones that Illya Kuriyakin wore in MfU;)). The best bit? Got to keep them:D
Oh shush!;)
