Is it me or does the TARDIS have a knack for finding trouble? Just a thought;)
I really liked the fact that the storeholder sounded cockernee/Estuary. I was also amused that Celtic=Welsh. Just don't tell the Irish family I said that
And the TARDIS goes walkies - The Doctor should have a homing beacon attached to the sonic screwdriver for her or something! Poor ol' girl.
The costumes of the Sybilline Priestesses were *beautiful*. Will be a bugger to replicate for a fancy dress comp but gorgeous to look at.
The priestess who does most of the talking is very theatrical y/y? She trying out for Shakespeare or something?
And there is something terribly wrong with the High Priestess - I thought 'burns victim' at first.
The vapours - nice nod to the Delphi Oracle - who were also above a kind of fissure taking in the gases as well.
Hang on - they all tell the truth?! What the...
'She is returning' - I'm with the Doctor - who is 'She'. Most likely Rose but what about Martha, Sarah Jane (I must see about getting my grubbies on the SJA at some point...) or someone else...
'Something on your back' - why do I feel terribly worried by this. Donna is becoming more awesome with each episode - Not least for the fact that she looks 'normal'. She has a figure as shown by that beautiful purple dress she gets to wear.
Which is a *bit* of an anomaloy as purple was reserved for the very, very rich (due to the expense at making the dye)... It wouldn't have been used for visitors from the boonies! Hmmmm...
And there is something down there... Made of living rock and it is not a happy bunny!
Bless Donna for trying to help. Admittedly it blows up in her face but... points for trying!
"No man may enter"
"Just us girls then" - heeeee!
Okay - not so far off with burns victim but looking like one of the poor souls 'fossilised' by the explosion to come.
Again with the mention of The Shadow Proclamation. And a second planet gone... Time War? (not to mention - anyone else thinking 'The Unquiet Dead' - seers, homeless races etc?)
When I first saw Ten brandishing hte gun I did do a double take - Time Agents (of the 51st Century variety) yes, Time Lords? nonononono! Then on second watch (thank you BBC iPlayer!) - I realised it was a water pistol - heeeee!
The conversation in the caverns was very interesting. Being able to see all of that and being bound over to act accordingly... Big burden!
I thought the coversation about the Pyrofiles intent was very interesting. He was looking for a loophole wasn't he? He didn't want to destroy them but the millions on earth against them and the 20,000 who'd die when Vesuvius went kaplooey... That's a bastard of a decision to make. Like how Donna was there to help him carry that burden.
He's right - he needs someone with him.
The explosion was as well done as can be expected on a TV budget (i.e. very well done). Watching everyone run in the wrong direction and seeing Donna try to point them in the right direction (including the little boy...) was heartbreaking but as the Doctor said - it's history. It happened.
DT and CT sell the scene where Donna entreats Ten to go back. She brings up Gallifrey and it's reinforced just why he is alone. He couldn't go back and save his family or his friends - can't cross your own timeline. I think it's blindingly obvious - if he could have done, he would have done it a million times over by now. Stopped Jack from dying the first time around, saved Rose from nearly falling into the Void (which led to her being 'trapped' in the other dimension) and so on and so forth...
Yet - she pushes him to save one family - to do *something*. So he does, he saves the family. The whole 'gods' thing makes sense - they were supersitious (sp!) times. Even our technology would have looked like magic back then... Timelord tech - god time!
Verdict - very impressive. Not cottoned on to what the term of the series is yet... my money is still on 'The Shadow Proclamation' myself (to my B5 peeps - am I the only one thinking of the Shadows with a scroll and a bell shouting 'hear ye, hear ye'? yes? thought I'd ask!)
Next week - the Ood return as does Captain Darling. Okay then.
