Checking in...

If you've seen the news reports today, you'll know that 'something' terrible has happened in London.
News reports are stating that there have been at least six explosions in the Capital, all in the City or surrounds. So far, as of 1:10 pm BST, there have been only two deaths reported, many injured though.
Tragic certainly, but if you've ever been caught up in London rush hour, you'll understand when I say that it could have been a lot, LOT worse.
I've checked in with my sister, who's BF works in London and he's as okay as anyone can be moving house. I've checked in with friends - River Woman's clan are all fine... River Son #1 (who is studying up by where one of the blasts took place) is thankfully on study leave. Eledhwen is out of the country (girl... when you read this - phone RW and plonk a comment on my LJ, just to let us know you're okay!) and Frogmella... is on the opposite side of town. I've e-mailed her to check that she's okay but as I used to work for the same insitution as she does, I know where she's based and it's (thankfully) a long way from all the kerfuffle.
I'm one of the lucky ones, as far as I can tell, my loved ones are all a-okay. Though it chills me to the bone to know that places I know so well (I worked up in London for two years and went for a post at the BMA which is on Tavistock Place - where the bus went boom) have been hit so f*cking hard.
I don't know who's responsible or what their reasoning is but I really do doubt they will succeed where the IRA have tried many times - to bring terror to the British people.
Sorry, but we don't scare that easily.
Instead, my thoughts and prayers are with the injured and afflicted and their families and friends. Most of all to the emergency services and medical staff who are going to have to deal with this dreadful mess. Heroes the lot of 'em. Paid nowhere near enough but perform miracles everyday.
So whereever you are and whoever you are. Thanks for reading and take care of yourselves and those you love.
