Dear Yuletide Writer/Santa/Goat
Oct. 15th, 2012 10:09 amDear Awesome Person
Hello!
How are you? I hope this letter finds you well. Can I just start off by saying that you are an awesome person with impeccable taste! How do I know this? You have volunteered to write in one of the teeny fandoms that we both love. Ergo - awesome.
Just before we get to the nitty-gritty, just be aware that whatever you write, so long as you've enjoyed it's crafting, I am bound to enjoy it too. So, no pressure on you;)
And if you're here because you are a pinch-hitting superstar - then the above goes for you with bells on.
This is my 3rd time on the Yuletide train, you can find my previous letters Here (2010) and Here (2011) in case you're interested. If you do, some of what I say may seem a tad 'familiar'; if I keep asking, one year, I'll get lucky;)
Please feel free to have a nosey around my journal. As all my requests are films - you may find the Movies tag of some use. Also my Films Watched In... posts too, although when I get an hour, I'll update the 2012 one because I am *woefully* behind on that one.
I'll also add relevant detail to each request where needed.
Okay - onto the Likes and Dislikes portion of the letter.
The 'Yes Please!' list includes - Plot, character-led stories, friendships, alternative realities where one thing changes, hugs/cuddling, women characters being awesome and competent, teams equaling families, happy(ish) endings, conversations/banter, films, kisses, laughter, humour, science, teamwork, adventures, slice of life, dancing, joy, life...
If you want to go down the sexyteims route (and given that at three of my fandoms have some of the most beautiful people on the planet - knock yourself out!) - sensuality is key as is emotional engagement and consent among adults too. My strongest leaning is towards m/m, quite happy with het but I'm afraid that f/f does nothing for me. Be far happier with female friendships, if that's okay with you.
The 'No Thank You' list - Character death*, kink, humiliation, partner betrayal, character bashing (especially women characters) porn minus plot, dark themes*. Fluffy monster is so *fluffy* you're gonna die (Despicable Me quote ftw!)
*With Prometheus feel free to give yourself some wiggle room, although, please, no darker than the film went as that was just about to hit my limits in places.
A Quick Word From Our Sponsors Re Ratings - Note – if you, awesome writer, can’t ‘do’ romance (het, slash or poly as the prompt suggests - or not) I would lovelovelove (more than cake!) Gen fic.
I hope that makes some kind of sense - if not, ask the mods (or a hippo!) to ask me for more intel.
The Fandoms:
( Details and Waffle for Arthur Christmas (2011), Prometheus (2012), RocknRolla (2008) and Sunshine(2007) )
And that is that. Obviously - these are just suggestions - if you, awesome writer, have a bunny that’s currently feasting on your ankle that you want to write then... fire up the word processor, draw yourself a beverage and WRITE! I’m sure I’m going to like it!
So - to conclude - have fun and I hope that your fic is as awesome as you are!

I've written het fic. NC-17 rated het fic. I'm feeling rather faint from the shock.
Total words for the day - 596 words. Alas, the muse is either lying down in a darkened room with a damp flannel over zie's eyes or watching The Great British Bake Off.
I'm not quite sure which and whether I *really* want to know.
* * *
In other news -
mini_nanowrimo is open for business for the *cough* year running. I did a count up in my head of all the years I've gone in for this and well... I scared myself.
As usual - rules are simple. 100+ words a day for 30 days. Speaking from experience - somedays, it's the easiest thing going. Other days... it's not pretty.
Even so, it's a *good* challenge - especially if you're doing something like
yuletide...

(Posting this using the new LJ interface - o_O)
In other news - The new Hobbit trailer has been released.
I can't think of anything 'coherent' to say right now (no change there then!) but ( I do have lots of 'incoherent' things to say ) There has been a lot of seal like clapping too, naturally.
Heavens help anyone going to see Skyfall at the BFI IMAX same showing as me and they show this... The squee will be mighty!

Something beautiful
Jul. 26th, 2012 08:39 pmTrailer for the film Cloud Atlas - frankly, they had me at 'Wachowskis' (The Wachowski Siblings - directors of The Matrix Trilogy) and 'Hugo Weaving' but this looks like something quite wonderful. Comes out in October I think...
* * *
In other news, Professor Brian Cox was awarded an honourary degree from Huddersfield University today. So far, so normal - until you take into consideration that Huddersfield's VC is Sir Patrick Stewart... In the spirit of 'photos or it never happened' - Prox Cox and Prof X.
Gia Milinovich (aka Mrs Professor Cox) wins the Internet today for her comment on the photo that it was of her current and future husbands. For let's be honest - while Prof Cox is a cutie - Sir Patrick always has been and ever shall be incadesantly hawt.

And how are you guys?

Bond? 007. Trailer? GIMME!
May. 21st, 2012 06:01 pmSo, yes, any squeaking heard in the vicinity of South East England at about 8.30am BST? Most likely to be me. I may not have babbled about Bond's return as much as I have 'other' films in recent weeks but as is traditional around here... 'Is It October Yet?!'
* * *
In related news: It's been announced that Duncan Jones' next film will be a biography of Ian Fleming - so yes, Man Made Moon meet Man Made Bond (thank you, thank you, here all week;))
Given that Jones first two efforts were cracking films (Moon and Source Code) it will be interesting to see him take on such subject. Especially when you consider that Fleming led one hell of a life. One that even his most famous creation would raise an eyebrow at.
* * *
One day, I will do a summing up post that does not involve movie trailers. Today, is not that day.

Apr. 11th, 2012 09:13 pmAnd I am *still* here! Yes, this journal was started SEVEN YEARS AGO today. No, I can't *quite* believe it myself either;). I just want to say thank you to everyone reading this and here's to the future.
Speaking of which...
Meet Merida - star of 'Brave'. The more I see the more I want to see this movie. And not just because it's Pixar or because of her hair but because I think this is going to be something wonderful. And I don't think I'm the only one who thinks this either...
In the spirit of 'It's my bloody journal and I'll spam y'all with videos if I want!'...
Weyland Industries - Our Family Is Growing (Viral Video for Prometheus.
UK Trailer for Prometheus
Saw this at the cinema at the weekend in front of the excellent The Hunger Games - the squee was strong with this one;)
Also - a whole lot of bloody lucky buggers were fortunate enough to see footage from the film and talk to Sir Ridley Scott and three of his cast - Small SPOILERS. I now want to revisit Alien and Is It June 1st Yet?!
On a tanget to the above - Alan Silvestri's Predator Soundtrack has been re-released This is one of my 'holy grail' OSTs as for the longest time it was unavailable, so guess who pounced on that today?
And now I must go - Thomas, Ebil Overlord is demanding that I dispense fuss and stritches. Like a good minion, I go to obey. I promise to be a bit more 'with it' but please, don't hold me to that!

Apr. 11th, 2012 08:33 pmIf you can read this, it's because I have you as a friend. There is a *damn* good reason for this, which I hope will become abundantly clear.
So - yes, seven years ago today, I started this blog. Sometimes it seems like seven minutes, other times it seems like seventy years;) Even so, I just want to make a note of this achievement and look back (and look forwards) at the year gone by.
One of the big events of the year gone by was the arrival the Shinzon Monster AKA my nephew. He's six months old tomorrow and he's... well... have a look for yourself:

I don't know if you can see it but his onesie says 'Hungry Monster' - he's also a very *chatty* monster as well. It's all 'babble' at the moment (or rather my babel fish cannot translate 'baby') but I get the impression that he's inherited the Monster ability to talk. As well as the desire to stand up rather than sit up... Heavens only knows what he's going to be like when he gets to the year mark!
( Since this is not Facebook - Baby In A Sink )
