This is more for my housekeeping than anything else. I am *so* behind on my movie watching, it's not even funny anymore. So - onwards
The 2010 list
Invictus - The film of the *true* story of how Nelson Mandela used one of the hated symbols of apartheid (the Springbok Rugby Team) to peacefully bring both black and white South Africans together just after his coming to power.
Politics, history and big, muscly guys playing Rugby. A near perfect movie - Highly recommended!
Percy Jackson and the Lighting Thief - I really enjoyed this - the kids were uniformly good. The story held up and passed the Monster Test* (all movie adaptions must stand up on their breakfast). Believable juxtaposition of modern and myth and hello thar Kevin McKidd! - Recommended (and I'll get around to reading the book at some point)
Predator - One of the greatest action films ever. The end.
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes - Possibly the greatest comedies ever. And not just because of the nearly naked men either (which, let's be honest... doesn't hurt;))
Alice in Wonderland (2010) - Classic Tim Burton and classic Lewis Carrol. Match made in (a very twisted!) heaven. Bit disconcerting to hear familiar voices (Stephen Fry, Alan Rickman, Barbra Windsor) in very different circumstances.
I've heard the complaint that it doesn't have much of a plot - but then the original book didn't have much in the way of a plot neither! Still, beautiful to look at.
The Princess And The Frog - Disney return to 2D animation and it's actually very good! It's not as good as Disney in it's 1990's heyday but I very much doubt that Disney can be that good again - that baton has passed onto Pixar. Still, worth a watch.
