Star Trek Into Darkness (2012) 'Announcement' trailer. Inital verdict? ooOOOOOOOoooooo!

Captain! There be SPECULATION (and a possibly more spoilery trailer too) here! )

In short - Is It May Yet?! Now About Now?!

This must be rectified - AT ONCE!

Yes, I *know* there is also a trailer for The Avengers (2012) but... (and please, no houndin' me outta town on a rail for this kaithanxbai!) I am not grokking this yet.

It looks great and I am sure that when the time comes I will utterly adore it but... not at the moment. In my defence - I said pretty similar things about X-Men: First Class as well... and look how *that* turned out! Even so - will be there opening weekend. If I've caught up on my film watching by then...

* * *

So - next week This Means War opens - which as a McG film would have me scurrying in the complete and total opposite direction. Seriously. But there is this - which made my brain go *BOOM* (kudos to whoever found this!) and then there is this - read it just for the comment from Tom Hardy.

It's going to be utter crap - but hot guys, sharp suits, heavy ordnance and things going BOOM - that's a ticket sold.

* * *

Haven't read this through properly - but EW magazine on why Shame (2011) should be recognized for more than just the nude scenes. A Thousand Times YES! It was one of the best films I saw last year and one of the best for this year too. Also - it's utter snubbing by the Academy was a travesty beyond words (as was Captain America - The First Avenger but I want to concentrate on the squee)

* * *

A fic rec to finish our 'broadcast' day - Laws of Ownership by Thefarofixer (Kirk/Spock|Star Trek (2009)|PG) - a very gentle, sweet story that made me smile.

- Does the phrase 'I aent ded' mean anything? Also, the post title is not rhetorical, I'd like to know;)

- Life toddles on. My sister's wedding moves ever closer *makes face*. Yes, Hen Parties are the work of the devil especially when they co-incide with the Annual Birthday Pub Crawl (now in it's second year!) of a good friend. There may have to be some serious planning (and running around) going on.

- The first draft of my [livejournal.com profile] tw_bigbang fic came in at just over 20,000 words. Let me repeat that... TWENTY THOUSAND FRAKKING WORDS!!!1111!!! *ahem*.
It needs work but homg I've been accepted for the next stage and *flails*.

- The main reason that I've been AFK (Away From Keyboard) is because I'm on leave from work - this has meant I've been trying out this 'Life' business that everyone tells me I should get. My feet disapprove of this idea greatly as walking from Brighton Marina to Hove (twice) and to the city centre (and around it a lot) even in comfortable shoes is not conductive to being able to move without whimpering in pain.

- Oh and there have been movies. LOTS of movies. Let's see - In August alone I've seen: The Great Escape, Bullit, Toy Story 3, Inception, Memento, Inception, Salt and Wonders of the Solar System finale with added Professor Brian Cox (doing an Q&A. Give him a pint of Stella and he'll happily talk for *hours! Or until the mic packs up - whichever happens first) - who comes across as being just as intelligent, funny, interesting, smiley and downright *beautiful* as he does in the series. Which I highly recommend to all and sundry.

For those who are a bit confused - Imagine that Cillian Murphy has a older, dorkier-looking brother with a PhD in particle physics and you have Prof Brian Cox. Who really shouldn't be confused with the noted British actor Brian Cox.

- Along those lines - I get to see Sunshine at the BFI tomorrow - yay! With a talk on the Sun (as in glowy thing in the sky - not the laughable excuse for a newspaper) beforehand - Prof Cox will be there as might be Danny Boyle (Sunshine's director). Let's just hope that no one picks up on the science of said movie...

- Next week's movies include: Metropolis at the BFI, Star Trek(s):The Voyage Home, The Undiscovered Country, Nemesis and plain ol' Star Trek. So that's 'The One With The Whales', 'The One With Klingon Glasnost In It', The One With Tom Hardy In It' (Chris Nolan has much to answer for!) and the Reboot. There may be more - I'm ambivalent about Scott Pilgrim V The World but I will go see as Edgar Wright is a damn fine director and both Chris Evans (blond, not ginger) and Brandon Routh are both in it. Recommendations are always welcome!

- In other news - I've upgraded my phone to a Blackberry. Ahahahaha! My phone company are going to regret this - free unlimited internet access? Why, yes, don't mind if I do! Also - Qwerty keyboard ftw although typing with thumbs is a skill I am working on. Even so, if you see me sitting on the tube/in a cafe/bar on my own with it in my hands, please approach with caution. Am likely to be writing fanfic.

So. That's me. How are you guys?. And a very *BIG* hello to the new people. Please say hi!
And I will try to be more talkative in future!

N.B. - This is a repost - I want to try and keep this up but the Universe got in the way. So, take two!

I've seen these about on LJ and everytime I've seen them, I keep thinking 'That would be a Good Thing To Do' and guess what?
I promptly forget to do something about it! That is until now. May the 'verse have mercy on your unsuspecting souls!

The 30 Days TV Meme - Days and Subjects )

So - Day 01 - A show that should never have been canceled

This question is perhaps the oddest of the lot. Or at least the most difficult to answer. Take your pick.

Mainly because, nearly all of the shows that I'm likely to talk about either ended when the time was right or they ended after they should have done. Very few have ended too soon, in my 'umble opinion. All bar, possibly, one.

And that one is....

Star Trek: The Original Series

Here - have a clip from the episode that, quite possibly!, started off the whole slash movement (or at least gave it a good kick up the bum!)

For those of you who have computers that *hate* embeds - it's the fight scene from 'Amok Time'

If memory serves - by the third series, NBC were getting cold feet about this little show (if only they had the Doctor's TARDIS!) and were cutting the budgets as well as moving it to the 'Friday Night Death Slot' (is it me or does this all seem *scarily* familiar to folks?).

Admittedly, this doesn't explain some of the utter dreck (Spock's Brain anyone?!) that was aired in the third season. Even so, no one can take away how groundbreaking (both societally and fannishly) the series was.

Not to mention what an impact it had on culture. There's a reason why the test Space Shuttle was called 'Enterprise'!

Just think what it may have achieved if the show had run the full five years....

'Cept Real Life is not playing ball with me at present. Where to begin...

Work
Have started on the long slog to resubmitting my charter. Most importantly, I've started looking at the feedback and gotten in contact with People Who Are There To Help.
Consider this fair warning that there will be plenty of bitching about the subject in months to come.

Everything else - is plodding along. The students haven't revolted and neither have the staff.

Fandom
Ahahahahaha. Aha. My interaction on a fannish level has been minimal of late. I've only been reading NCIS fic from favourite authors and gen-to-r-rated Star Trek '09 fics. An utterly incomplete and indiscriminate selection of stories and icons I've liked for NuTrek
I'll add to that as I go along.

The squee seems to be on vacation at present. I wouldn't mind but the git hasn't even sent a postcard!

Car Woe!
The car is not currently experiencing woe at present. Which is nice. Touchwood.

The problem is... I'm seriously considering buying a new car. Prime (aka the current car) qualifies under the Government's 'Cash for Bangers' scheme. Trust me, I wouldn't get £200 for him (even with a full tank!) let alone £2000. So this is A Good Thing.
One small problem... (two, if you include sorting out the finances) what to buy.

All I know is that I want something a) small, b) cheap to run and c) has a decent sound system. The problem is that the range of choice is mindboggling.
I have narrowed it down to about three or four marques that I want to test drive but until the Father Unit returns - nothing doing.
Does anyone want to bet that when I *do* go for the test drives, all the sales reps will be talking to the Father Unit and not me, the one who'll be bloody buying the thing?!

So there you go. Any questions? Anyone?
