The beloved Mr Spock (my little car and love of my life - stop looking at me like that!) got scratched up today at work. It was another driver trying to fit into too small a space. Yes, I was in the car at the time. No I wasn't best pleased. I have their details but I'll see how much it will cost to repair before I consider calling on the insurance.

In other news - These came in the post for me today. I make no apologies for the geekiness (as worn by Timelords everywhere dontyaknow!) of my choice!

The maroon is a standard colour in both men's and women's sizes if anyone knows of other like minded geeks who need geeky shoes;)

On the same subject - Free Doctor Who Audio Books with a UK newspaper from Saturday
I'm buying the Saturday paper, as Matt Smith has a lovely voice. Yes, I am a perv, you're all just twigging this?!

I'm currently in the middle of what I usually call 'Hell Fortnight'. School has just restarted for the majority of the students I see. This means that I have teaching commitments and tours up the wazoo for another week or so.

I do love my work but there are times when I just get a *leetle* punch drunk. Today was one of those days. So today I have:

I tried (and thankfully failed) to flush my purse/wallet down the toilet (Don't. Ask.)

Been giggling over and squeeing over the newest addition to the cast of Toy Story 3. The name alone will have me cackling for *months*1 Daniel Craig might be the one with the name and the number but Mr Dalton is getting all the 'cool' roles.
We will not discuss the fact that Timothy Dalton be appearing in a 'project' this winter that will make Children of Earth Day Four seem hurt like a cut knee... Mainly because two months after the fact I still want to punch RTD's lights out!

It's a shame that I have to have a corporate image as my desktop wallpaper else this would be it. My co-workers *know* I'm crazy - the new students don't....

Trufax! Remember I 'introduced' Mr Spock a week or so ago? Well, I have this bobblehead in the back window of my car. (I did mention the crazy thing, right?).
Tonight, as I was waiting at a junction, I looked into my rear view mirror to see the folks in the car behind me doing the Vulcan hand salute to Mr Spock...

Not much you can say to that is there....

So! How are you?

Just so you know... I'm being more boring than usual. Which is why there has been considerable radio silence at my end. My excuse and I'm *sticking* to it!

*

A PSA for those of you who have me flisted soley for the NCIS writing and or squee. You may wish to reconsider.
I haven't been watching the show in recent months (I think 'Bounce' was the last episode I watched) and I haven't written anything for months either. I'll try to catch the current series when it makes it to UK DVD but other than that... it may be time for me to bid adieu to the Navy Yard.

*

Reccie teim! Torchwood: The Sin Eaters Audio Book ready by Gareth David Lloyd
I has this and can highly recommend it to anyone who watches the show/reads the books. Captivating storyline, a good 'case', some lolworthy one liners (you'll know them when you hear them!) and GDL is a joy to listen to - not just because he does a damn good job of JB's accent but he gets EM and KO's accents down too. Recommended on the proviso that it's not listened to in a public place... giggling hysterically is never a good look!

*

Some may have noticed that I mentioned in a previous post that I'm writing again. Well, having passed the 8,000 word mark sometime yesterday/today (shocked? nearly fell of my chair!) I feel it's time to say a little more about it.

It's a Torchwood story, set post 'Children of Earth'. Insofar as TW is concerned... it's canon compliant. (I know!) Oh, did I mention that Ten and Donna put in an appearance?

Trust me, no one (and I repeat, no ONE) is more surprised by this fact than me!
As I've said before - if I finish this (I have plans - whether they're going to work or not is another matter!) it will be a miracle of *James Cameron* proportions! And as for posting it? Ahahahahaha! Lets just call it 'writing as therapy' and leave it as that!

*

Since it's nearly the new TV season - my TV watching schedule:
Saturday
Strictly Come Dancing
Merlin
Doctor Who Special(s)
And that is that. Thank the FSM for DVDs! I can foresee a Doctor Who marathon (complete with added Torchwood) in my future!

*

Work is about to ramp up for the new term - not only that but I've changed my late night to a Monday. Which is fair warning for me to warn for me being grumpier than usual on a Monday;)

*

And finally.... Because I am (practially;)) clinically unable to finish a post on a downer... Remember my whining about 'Prime' kicking the proverbial? Welll...

May I take this moment to introduce you to... Spock? )

*

Oh! Can someone remind me to write up the Doctor Who pubcrawl of London, with added tips at some point?

*

So - that's me - how are you?

'Cept Real Life is not playing ball with me at present. Where to begin...

Work
Have started on the long slog to resubmitting my charter. Most importantly, I've started looking at the feedback and gotten in contact with People Who Are There To Help.
Consider this fair warning that there will be plenty of bitching about the subject in months to come.

Everything else - is plodding along. The students haven't revolted and neither have the staff.

Fandom
Ahahahahaha. Aha. My interaction on a fannish level has been minimal of late. I've only been reading NCIS fic from favourite authors and gen-to-r-rated Star Trek '09 fics. An utterly incomplete and indiscriminate selection of stories and icons I've liked for NuTrek
I'll add to that as I go along.

The squee seems to be on vacation at present. I wouldn't mind but the git hasn't even sent a postcard!

Car Woe!
The car is not currently experiencing woe at present. Which is nice. Touchwood.

The problem is... I'm seriously considering buying a new car. Prime (aka the current car) qualifies under the Government's 'Cash for Bangers' scheme. Trust me, I wouldn't get £200 for him (even with a full tank!) let alone £2000. So this is A Good Thing.
One small problem... (two, if you include sorting out the finances) what to buy.

All I know is that I want something a) small, b) cheap to run and c) has a decent sound system. The problem is that the range of choice is mindboggling.
I have narrowed it down to about three or four marques that I want to test drive but until the Father Unit returns - nothing doing.
Does anyone want to bet that when I *do* go for the test drives, all the sales reps will be talking to the Father Unit and not me, the one who'll be bloody buying the thing?!

So there you go. Any questions? Anyone?

Or: Boring Monster is Boring

Car Woe! Update - Well, the damn thing is going but for how much longer is a matter of debate. On the plus side, I'm not pulling muscles changing gears right now. Even so, there will be a new car in my life before the winter.

Work (and other disasters) - Bad case of 'hand in fever' at work. Symptoms include all computers being used, nearly all study spaces in use, book returns rocketing and students *expecting* you to do their referencing for them. Yup, business as usual!

The Professional Exams Body met last week - my gut tells me that mine went before them. I have no proof but...
Naturally, I will post here once the family and my bosses know. Mind you, if I pass, you shall know me by the high pitched squeaking!

Fannish News - Torchwood - I HAVE TICKETS FOR THE BFI SCREENING! Yes, I will report back. Yes, I am a jammy bugger! After spending waaay too much money on Bond tickets - they owe me;)

Bond - Am still enjoying the films. Moore will never be my favourite Bond (although, I really like 'Man with the Golden Gun' and 'Octopussy') but I only have two more of his before I get to the 'better' Bonds (Dalton onwards). I spotted Joanna Lumley in OHMSS this time around. Also, Lois Maxwell as Miss Moneypenny pwns everyone else. Bar possibly Samantha Bond and Judi Dench.

NCIS - Newly Posted Story!.
Am avoiding the current wank like the plague. Have come to the conclusion that people have short memories. Yes, the Tony/Ziva storyline is sneer-worthy but 'La Grenouille' anyone?
YMMV

Star Trek and other Movies - My current happy place. I'm going to see Star Trek at the BFI (those guys *again*) IMAX at the end of the month. Needless to say, I'll go see it again before then. Ditto Coraline. I'm considering Angels and Demons but I fear that I may end up booking myself a one-way trip to The Special Hell. Ewan 'hubba hubba' McGregor is playing a priest in said film. Yeah.

How are yous guys?

In happier news...

Did I mention that I saw Neil Gaiman this week? I did? Well, I'm mentioning it again as he is simply AWESOME. Someone who needs to be taken to the nearest hostelry (with comfy seats) plied with all manner of good food and drink and gotten to talk about *everything*. This also applies to Sir Ian McKellen because... duuuude!

Oh and car permitting - STAR TREK TONIGHT!!!!!ELEVENTY!!!!

THE GOOD
Edinburgh - nuff said;) Beautiful city, great festivals, lovely people and lots to do. Picspam will follow... Just like the Cardiff one will too.

The newest challenge at [livejournal.com profile] ncis_flashfic is Five Things. One down, four still to write!

THE BAD
I have car woe! Ducky (my little car - to call him a 'jalopy' is an insult to jalopys but...) went in for his MOT today. The result? TWO PAGES of faults! With TWO marked as **Dangerous**.

The Father Unit shall be consulted as to what happens next. This is because the last time I made a decision about post MOT work, it cost me £925 and a bollocking from both parents for not consulting them before paying out so much (blah, blah, blah!)
The moral of this story - I may be a ditz, but at least, I try to learn from my mistakes!

I owe far too many replies - I will get back to them, honest!

THE AWESOME
Ratatouille and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (please, someone tell me that the latter title has been 'appropriated' for a Man From UNCLE story? If so, a link would be good;)). Thanks to the good graces of the Edinburgh Film Festival, I got to see both of these. Both are made of 100% awesome. Espeically the 'Anyone For Love' number from 'GPB' (fans self...)

THE INTRIGUING
TV.com synopsis for NCIS #501 Anyone want to take a guess as to what happens to a certain character? I'm just glad that by the look of things, it's going to be wrapped up quickly. fingers crossed I'll bother people for spoilers later (I'm going to see this movie the next day, so I won't be watching it... my excuse and I'm sticking with it!)

THE WHISKEY TANGO FOXTROT!
Keanu Reeves signs up for REMAKE of 'The Day The Earth Stood Still' WHY?! I adore that movie - where is the point in remaking it?! I have nothing against Mr Reeves (given the right material - he's a good actor) but Klaatu? Again, I say, WHY?!

THE 'OH DEAR NO!
Someone on my flist is/was into GI Joe fandom? If so, read this. Given the director, it could be good, it could also be a major clusterfrak.

Okay - time to go write and find out what to do about the Car Woe! Will keep y'all updated;)

- New icon. Sums me up this morning.

- Am going to *try* and make the [livejournal.com profile] ncis_flashfic challenge this time around. At least I have a week before deadline this time around.

- I need to have a 'car woe' tag. Ducky's front driver-side tyre went last night. Fortunately, there was a spare and the Very Nice Man from the AA fixed it. He told me to drive home and then sort out a new tyre today. All well and good.

- There is a 'But'. The Mother Unit needed my car to get to work this morning as SU#4's car has gone in for a service (SU#4 cannot drive stick - MU's car is an automatic). Guess who broke down a mile outside of the village and phoned home at 5am to be rescued? Waking everybody up in the process?! And yes, it was the same frelling tyre!!

- I am brain dead - but I have tea. As recommended by Time Lords as the ultimate restorative.

- I have a new job. Same as the old one, but instead of just one subject, I have two. Education and Health. I am optimistic that this will be all for the good. There will be juggling, mind.

- I might have converted [livejournal.com profile] janedavitt to NCIS. Okay, it wasn't just me but a combination of a lot of her flist people going 'Watch this!' and Mark Harmon (gee - can't imagine why?!) who are responsible. There might be fic in the future. I will pimp if and when.

- I made the [livejournal.com profile] twdw_ficathon sign up with time to spare (admittedly, not much).

- Talking of ficathons - there is movement on the [livejournal.com profile] ncis_tinsel front. There may be a story for me soon (yay!). Also there is talk of another round of [livejournal.com profile] ncis_ficathon happening in the spring months.

- As I said in my last missive. The middle name is CrazyBatShit
