Peter Boyle 1935-2006

Was also in the magnificent Young Frankenstein as well, as the Monster. Which I would heartily recommend if you need a good laugh. Uses the same sets as the Whale version of Frankestein. In recent years, especially to non US types, he'll always be remembered for the magnificent X-Files episode 'Clyde Bruckman's Last Repose'. Which even after nearly ten years between viewings, has lost none of it's beauty.

Thoughts and prayers to his family and friends.

I'm throwing this query out to the flist as they're responsible in the first place. Shifting blame much?;)
I am also invoking the Second Rule of Librarianship (The First Rule is: Know where the loos are and how to unjam photocopiers/printers) being: If you don't know the answer - find someone who does.

NCIS makes it's bow on R2 DVD today and as such I've added to/pushed it up my 'Netflix' (they're called Screenselect - but I'll call them Netflix for the sake of simplicity!) list.

*Touches wood* 'Netflix' have been very good in sending me my first choices as of late. Which means that I have a good chance of getting this in the foreseeable. That or 'Genesis of the Daleks' or S9/S2 SG-1/Atlantis - which are all good. Would prefer Atlantis first; seeing as it would allow me to induldge in my shameful habit of lusting after Col. Caudwell. Um....

I know pretty much next to nothing about this show. All I know is that large sections of my flist think this show rocks mightily. Also that there is a sizeable slash following. Which, in the book of Beckymonster, adds up to something well worth taking time out to look into!

So - what do I need to know?

Who are the main characters? Anyone I'm going to take an instant shine/dislike/develop 'inconvienent' feelings for? On the slash front - pairings?
Also - what season is about to air in the US and what season are Five showing right now?

Thanking y'all in advance!

******

Still on the TV tip - was watching S3 X-Files last night. Specifically 'Piper Maru' and 'Achrophorya' (sp!) - WhumpedSkinner! should come with a health warning - oy! And still the OT3 bunnies will not give me peace. Like I don't have enough to work with... *headdesk*

Where Becky witters on about favourite characters and shows )

As a cookie - which y'all need after reading that 'little' lot... I am hoping that I will be able to post new fic soon. It's been beta'ed - just awaiting the all clear:D Until then, it's back to the Sam Gen story I'm writing for a ficathon *flails*. It's like Nanny Ogg spelling 'banana'. It's started, but where it ends is another matter ENTIRELY!

First up... Can I just wish a very good friend a happy birthday?

HAPPPY BIRTHDAY [livejournal.com profile] _minxy_

Hope you have a very good one and a great year filled with wonderful things... starting with a successful defence!

Secondly - I am so far behind in my reviews, it's not even funny anymore! So to make amends - I will round up everything I've seen (either on DVD or Cinema) recently in a sentence. Or two;)

X-Men: The Last Stand - It sucked like a Dyson

Bleak House - By the same adapter as the '95 version of 'Pride and Prejudice' and yes, it is just as good. Stand out performances by Gillian 'Agent Scully' Anderson and Denis 'Wedge Antillies and Ewan McGregor's uncle' Lawson.

The Fast and The Furious: Toyko Drift - I have no taste and the lead has delusions of being Ben Browder when he grows up.

Howls Moving Castle - very pretty but I fear that I was missing something. Answers on a postcard please to the usual address!

A History of Violence - Beautiful and highly disturbing all at the same time.

Over the Hedge - By the same company as 'Madagascar' and 'Shrek'. Save your money - rent these two instead, you'll have more fun!

Doctor Who (S2) - Army of Ghosts OMGWTFPOLARBEAR!!!

X-Files S2 and (early) 3 - Gods help me, I'm falling in love with this show. The bunnies are circling and the voices are telling me there is no guilt in watching SGA simply to lust after Mitch Pileggi in a flight suit!

So - there you go, me up to date on the reviews front. I'll save my news for another post.

- [livejournal.com profile] splash_the_cat is running a poll about starting up a LJ newsletter for SG-1. You can find the relevant post here. Please go along and express an opinion. Personally I think this is a great idea as it would advertise stories that I might not read because I don’t know that they are out there.
Then again, I’d have to put up with the Jack/Sam ‘tuw luv’ BS. Ah well, into every life a little rain and all that;)

- [livejournal.com profile] nialla42 has some interesting meta about ‘Torchwood’ on her LJ. Which can be read
here
Not much in the way of spoilers, if at all. Even so, if you can read it and not jump to any slashy conclusions; you have my admiration!

- Via AICN’s Moriarty, some very interesting thoughts on the so-called next wave of DVD. From the New York Times (registration is needed, but if you’re interested; it’s worth it!) it discusses without hype what’s what.
Interesting to finally read that the new players *will* be backwards compatible i.e. that they’ll play ‘normal’ DVDs – phew! I have pushing 220 of the buggers - I cannot afford to replace 'em all!. On the downside, you’re going to need a bigass new player, which is the same size as a oldskool VCR and an equally huge HDTV to see any difference to the quality we get now.
Let’s not forget the whole HD/Blu Ray debacle – can you say VHS v Betamax?

On the ‘new tech’ theme – how’s this for a vote for common sense. The BPI will not go chasing after folks who rip CDs they own onto their MP3 players in the UK. That’s what I thought too… The BBC has more here

- The Football World Cup starts this weekend: Once I have written the review for the excellent ‘Once in a Lifetime’, a documentary about the New York Cosmos soccer team; this lj will become a football free zone.
No, I don’t think Ireland qualified this time around… does it show?
(Note - my father's family are Irish, ergo just to be awkward - I support Ireland!)

- Written about >2500 words since last Friday. Which is a very good thing; hoping to get something finished soon. The stories are called ‘Tea in Space’ and ‘Or would you prefer ferrets?’ Doctor Who and SG-1 respectively. There is a logic behind both titles, trust me on this.

- Can someone explain to me how I lost 2lbs in body weight between Friday and Tuesday? Not that I’m complaining, but I didn’t do anything to deserve it! Hell, ate like there was no tomorrow on Saturday (Lemon chicken and egg fried rice for dinner... mmmmmm;)) Hadn’t been swimming as the ebil cold decided that it liked my chest better than my nose – just shaking it now but…

- Is it wrong to want to watch ‘Stargate: Atlantis’ for the shallow reason of lusting over Mitch Pileggi? More commonly known as Assistant Director Walter Skinner from the ‘X-files’? We’re talking serious ‘guh’ territory here; in both shows. Who knew that flight suits could be so damn sexy? Though the shirt/tie/glasses combos from ‘X-Files’ will always win out.

- Am adding X-Files on DVD to the current list of TV obsessions. Currently on S2; waiting for the right time to re-watch ‘Fresh Bones’. This is the military voodoo one; which scared me silly when I first watched it at Uni all those years ago! Watching something similar in ‘Kill Bill pt 2’ was so enjoyable!;)
Again with the dirtybadwrong: the storymuse’s idea that Mulder should give Skinner a blowjob after his announcement about re-opening the X-files in ‘Duane Barry’. Bad muse – no biscuit!

My netflix clone has been sending me my top choices for a change, which is unnerving. Waiting for the other shoe to drop here… I think I can hear it clattering as we speak;)

Right – I have a general and an archaeologist to get drunk and try to have sex. Oh if only I could do that in RL!:D

Fic recs - come and get your fic recs while they're hot;)

Okay - first up, presenting Galactica Noir A WIP, yes, but it's a total crackfic! that needs to be shared. Written by [livejournal.com profile] ghoulsis it's a melange of Raymond Chandler and '04 BSG and it works beautifully! You don't really need to know much about Battlestar Galactica (other than character names) but it does help;) Also it has a strong leaning towards Adama (Snr) and Roslin... which I admire greatly because... yeah!;)

Galactica Noir Part One

Galactica Noir Part Two

Next up... a story that I happened upon by searching through someone else's lj (Wotcha [livejournal.com profile] _minxy_) After the whole shebang with LJ not showing my posts up on other people's ljs for a week, it was a good idea to 'check' that my posts were showing up... While I was doing so, I ended up browsing through, as you do, and I kept picking bits and peices up. A couple of new people to friend, a new comm [livejournal.com profile] reel_sga and a fic or three too.

Which is where I found this: Springier by Jet.

Yes, it's an X-Files fic. Yes, I do feel that this sums up the relationship between Mulder and Scully beautifully. Yes, I am on disc two of Season two and enjoying it intensely. It's part relieving memories of a very good time and discovering a damn fine tv show. Now if I can only find some Skinner smut I will be one very happy monster:D

I have some SG-1 recs as well but the coding is playing silly buggers so I shall try again later. Best that I walk away and get some chocolate. Know what I'm saying?;)

Right... before I go, one question. Watched the Farscape episode 'Revenging Angel' yesterday and... What on Earth (or any other reality you might care to mention) were the writers on? That must have been some frelling good crack!

Without giving too much away... Farscape + Looney Tunes = serious weirdness! Oh and Skinner has just told Krychek to take Mulder home... take those damn slashy vibes AWAY! I'm begging here;)
